I am trying to process my OB appt yesterday.
The background:
My original EDD was 7/2 based on my cycle.
That was changed to 7/9 based on U/S.
That was changed again by another U/S to 7/4.
This is baby #3.
1st was 13 days "late" and induced with pit for which became a two day labor from hell. Two days of the drip. An eventual epidural and vacuum extraction. Baby was very post mature and was 8.9lbs.
2nd was 10 days "late". Scheduled induction for a Tuesday. Went into labor on my own on Sunday. No Pit. Did have epidural. Baby was 9.11lbs with shoulder dystocia and broken clavicle (no long term damage). Very post mature with meconium problems.
All throughout this pregnancy the two OB's I alternated seeing in the practice said I would not be going past 39 weeks. They both were in agreement to induce me the week of 7/2 (this week). They had a fear of another large baby and repeat SD. The other option offered quite alot was c/s to which I always said NO.
Last week I had another u/s to which the baby was ESTIMATED at 7.3lbs. Docs felt it was safe to wait another week before making decision.
I went to OB yesterday. I had a VE and found to have a soft cervix but only dilated to a 1. I was shocked b/c the past few days have been very crampy and painful. OB said that we should make an appt for Monday to do another VE and another u/s for Friday to check weight. If baby shows to be 8.5lbs or so, she would do a c/s. U/S are only estimates when it comes to weight right? Even the OB said there is a % of error especially this late in the game. And babies gain .5-1lb a week at this point right? I feel that I am/was being set up for a c/s. Numerous times throughout the pregnancy a c/s has been suggested.
I asked for the other OB's opinion in all this before I left the office. Between the two of them, they decided that I would go in on Monday for Cervidil.
Am I doing the right thing? I will be 40 weeks according to the u/s due date. I kind of feel that this is the thing to do. I am scared to wait another week only to have another u/s with inaccurate weight estimates to be told I would need to c/s.
Please be gentle with me. I cannot switch OB's this late in the game. Doula is out of the question. I have been having lots of sex (much to DH's approval
). Eating the pineapples like crazy. Walking, chasing and staying active with the two other little ones. Have been ingesting and inserting the EPO and enjoying my RRL. I obviously cook my babies longer than some and feel like I am destined to have some sort of medical intervention no matter what. It feels like it all comes down to choosing the lesser of the two evils at this point.
Sorry this is so long. Just trying to process...
