HP release parties - are they really worth it?

I've never gone to one but I'm thinking about going to the one at Borders. I'd have to bring my 12 month DS though and he might be happy in the Ergo but he might not and its going to be long and late and crowded. Is it worth it?

We have a wedding the 21st So I think I'm not going to start until after the wedding otherwise I won't want to go!!!! So I don't need the book right away anyway...

But it's a really nice party

and there are fresh donuts from the bakery across the street

It's in the independent bookstore in our small town and the owner is a friend of our family.
