Now I'm dreaming of homebirth... a BIG step for me!

With dd#1 I had midwives (I was living in the cities then and had a lot of choice of provider), and they were wonderful. Now we moved to a small town of 3,000 people. There's a clinic & hospital in town, and one doctor who does births. Apparently, doctors in surrounding towns are not much better than the doc I'm with now. There aren't any hospital-based midwives within 100 miles from here. I have no idea if there are homebirth midwives, but now I am on a quest to find out if there are any.

I only hear bad things about the Doctor I'm with. The c-section rate here in town is REALLY high. Just yesterday I met a woman at the local pool who had him deliver her little girl by C-section, even though she KNEW she never wanted to have a c-section in advance, and had a detailed birth plan, etc.
She's very unhappy with her experience. And he also misdiagnosed her little girl when she was sick at 10 months old, and her daughter ended up spending 2 weeks in the hospital.

I have been kind of surprised how he spends less than 2 minutes with me on my appointments. Just in, checks heartbeat, asks how I'm feeling (lately it's just been "fine") and is out. Never asks anything about nutrition, feeling baby move, whatever... nothing! My old midwives would talk to me for 20-30 minutes on each visit!

And the more I think about him moving up my EDD without even telling me (I only found out because I overheard the nurse setting up my 20 week ultrasound)... I have grown really suspicious. While face-to-face he comes off as nice, he acts like a doctor who thinks he knows what's best, and anything else doesn't matter. The situation is starting to stress me out. In fact, the more I think about it, the more annoyed I get.

I am definitely a woman who knows what I want. But still, I don't want to have to be constantly standing up to some doctor who acts like this.

So, now I'm dreaming of homebirth. It sounds so appealing to me. But my choices in this town are so limited. There HAS to be a homebirth midwife somewhere around, right?

I've checked all the midwife websites, and started asking around (and haven't found anyone yet), but how should I really go about finding a homebirth midwife in a rural place like this?

:

anyway, it's a long post... thanks for listening!

I am glad you are considering a HB. It really is amazing...the way birth should be. No other ideas on how to find a MW in your area, maybe you could ask around in 'Finding your tribe'? Good luck mama

Yay!!

My dreams told me to have a waterbirth at home. (Swimming with dolphins if you will...) and I'm so glad I listened.

That OB is the last person you should be directing your pg energy at right now. Yuck.

I didn't find a midwife until I was 33 weeks. So you have plenty of time!

Happy birthing!

Have you considered UC? Even if it seems beyond the pale for you, hanging out at the board might build your confidence in your ability to birth at home while you search out a HB MW. I think the finding your tribe area would have good leads for HB MWs or even experienced HB or UC moms willing to act as labor support for a MW attended HB or a UC.
