serging questions...from a novice!

Thread Starter
I bought a huskylock 431 from eBay to make my diaper inserts from recycled clothes etc...and have tried making momma pads out of my diaper making scraps. I have found that I can only sew straight lines...that there seems to be no way to do curves? I thought instead of everything being rectangles it would be nice to do curves but I cant figure out how? Also I am completely lost on thread tensions and it has no instructions. It is a three spool serger and was made in the 80's but really well cared for and a great deal...any tips to get me beyond straight lines? I would so appreciate it!
TIA!

CUrves are tricky, it takes practice. You could try looking on the internet for the machine manual; sometimes they put them online.
I have also found great books on sergers and troubleshooting problems.

I have this serger book and it is really good on answering questions (ie thread tension).

I practiced corners by making a ton of wipes. Cut stuff out squared and round the edges as you serge. For wipes, I use an 8 1/2 inch square quilters template. That helped me figure out how to serge curves and now I can serge curves pretty well. Just practice, practice, practice.
