I'm a vegetarian (you too, right, Googy? I'm sure I've seen you in that forum.), so that influences everything I make. I love Indian, Mexican, and Italian flavours. I like to make my own maki...especially in the summer when it's too hot to eat warm food. I think my favourite food is a brothy soup with fresh buttered bread for dunking. I love fresh ingredients, lots of fruit and veggies, fresh herbs. I like bread and pasta more than I should. I have a scrambled tofu obsession.
Ooh, I would like eating at your house! We have much the same taste! Soup, homemade bread, fruits, veggies, and herbs are the staples in my house! I LOVE Indian food too. Indian restaurants are one of the only places I can go to where ther are like 25 different choices for me on the menu! We have a great little hole-in-the-wall place near us that I can't visit enough. Unfortunately I have NOT mastered Indian cooking at home. Do you have a great cookbook recommendation?

I've tried homemade maki a few times, but I just don't roll it as tight as the pros do! I really need to get this down, and I am REALLY missing veggie sushi right now! I feel like I could trust it is I made it myself!

I haven't tried scrambled tofu yet--I'll have to add it to my list for the week! Thanks for the inspiration!

Do you have a good bread recipe? Something for a bread machine? I'm turning out bread-flavoured bricks, which I'll eat but it freaks my husband out a bit. Come over for chow anytime!

De-lovely:
Yay for Ben Harper! I thought of a great TV show: Dead Like Me. It got cancelled after two seasons so maybe I'm the only person who watched it, but it was hysterical.

i'm pakistani, so we eat homecooked indian all the time. : i've found that most of the indian cookbooks i have never really come close to the recipes i've learned from being around my aunties. but i would recommend most of madhur jaffrey's stuff as a good go-to...this is a great starter. i'd also try to find some foodblogs out of india! one that i read is saffron trail but i just stumbled across it a few months ago and actually haven't tried any of her recipes thus far...

oh also! here and here you can find two recipes i've posted on my blog...also you should make fruit chaat! i have been craving it the entire second trimester. it is perfect pregnancy food -- sweet and spicy! -- and women on the subcontinent are notorious for eating tons when pregnant. ha!

Ooh, Robina, you're killing me! I've started getting pregnancy heartburn. We live really close to the "Little India" area of our city and the Indian buffet is calling my name.

No, I will regret it...must resist...

I ate a burrito yesterday and it wasn't pretty.

Hmm, nothing good for the bread machine. I tired the bread machine for a while and it never worked out very well. Not nearly as good. So, I mix, knead, and do the first rise of the dough in my Kitchen-Aid mixer, then just put it into loaf pans for a second rise and toss into the oven. Turns out a lot better than the machine.

Ooh, and a visit to Canada for good food is sounding pretty tempting!

thank you! let me know if you try them out. i wish i had more (subcontinental) recipes archived for you but i haven't posted many. if i do, i'll be sure to let you know. for what it's worth, i think the lentil recipe would also freeze well (maybe sans potatoes? not sure how well potatoes freeze) and it's a huge recipe so you could make it for dinner one night later in the summer and have some to save for november!

Whether they're freezable or not, I don't care! I really just want to learn how to cook in that style! I appreciate your help and guidance!
