Hair Dye anyone?

Ok, so I have a lot of premature silver, white hair. All on the right side of my head. If I do my hair a certain way you can't see it (so long as there's no wind and it doesn't move ).

I was in dire need to dye it before I got pregnant, but now that I am, I'm stressed about the choice to dye it or not!

So, ladies, WWYD?

I've always been advised to wait until the 2nd trimester to use hair dye. HTH

I feel your pain. I was just about ready to dye my hair again when I found out I was pregnant. I have way too much premature gray hair. I would say about 50 percent and I am only 33! I usually color my hair every 4 weeks, but got behind due to some travel. At least I am on summer vacation from teaching and can color right before heading back to work, but I am going to look really funny for a while, red long hair, with brown and gray roots! Where has my youth gone??:

CBEMISH: Want to stick it out together?? I got your back if you got mine!

i desperately need to dye my hair, kept forgetting, then found out im pregnant...dont know what to do! MY mum, who i work with, keeps telling me i need to dye my hair, and i havent told her im pregnant yet so i dont know what to say to her!!!

I might ask my dr about it - i think i dyed my hair when i was pregnant with rory...

When I was pregnant my daughter, I used an all-natural hair dye that I bought from the health food store. I used it in my first trimester and my daughter is perfectly healthy.

My doctor had said that there isn't really any concrete evidence that dying your hair has any effect on the baby. The dye does not go into your system, so it doesn't affect anything. With my 1st pregnancy, I dyed my hair. I wasn't worried. My best friend was dead against it. The funny thing is, I always dyed my hair with the normal chemical based dyes from the salon. After dd was born, I used a natural hair dye and had the worst reaction ever! I got such a rash all the way down my neck, in my hair and I couln't stop itching it for 2 weeks. My neck was raw and so painful. It was so wierd.

With this new pregnancy, I'm not dying my hair. The only reason being is that I haven't dyed it in almost 8 months and want to see my real color for a change!

I think it's all a matter of how comfortable you feel but I honestly, don't think it's bad.

I just had highlights put in my hair last weekend. I did tell the stylist to keep it away from my skin because I was pregnant.

I was going to suggest hightlights, since they don't touch the scalp. Could you do that now, and then in two months do the full color?

I think gray hair is beautiful!

I have a lot, but I embrace it

Thanks for all the replies!!

Archergoddess: I am going to give it a shot and try to wait it out for the first trimester Good luck to us both!

Although the highlights idea isn't a terrible one My brother's girlfriend is a hair stylist so I'm sure she might be able to suggest something easy. We'll see.

I'll probably just try and wait though. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one with premature gray!! :

My dh thinks it's sexy, but at 28 yrs old, I am not ready to just let it grow and embrace it!

hahha take out 28 and replace it with 24 and thats me! Its just not good to be gray when youre 24

My mum keeps hinting i need to dye it - even bought me hair dye the other week "because it was on special at the supermarket" Part of me held off dying it weeks ago because I wanted to spite her - and say "hey i'll dye it when i please, thank you. Maybe i like the greys" (even though i dont )

But now I just cant dye it!

Im off to break the news to her (about the pregnancy not the hair dye ) at lunch today : Im slightly terrified!

HA! I'm 5 weeks and just got back from my hairdresser and am sporting a lovely black & green 'do!

I know it's not concrete evidence, but I have worked in hair salons since I was 6, and have worked with many pregnant hairdressers and seen many pregnant clients. I have never heard of hair dye being harmful during pregnancy until I was preg with DD (2004). I know that generally, chemicals are bad, and the skin absorbs the crud in hair dye.

I do know that some are better than others. For example, semi-permanent colours are generally safe (you can google this), because they don't have they same toxic chemicals that are in permanent colours. There are also some new natural semi-permanent colours with NO toxic chemicals (What was used on my hair tonight).

Henna is also a safer choice.
