As for a topic -

What is your favorite baby carrier and what one(s) are you hoping to use with your new babe?
Jenn - wonderful topic!

I know I'm going to be a huge babywearer - but I have no clue where to start or what is what! So I'm going to be really interested in what everyone has to say!

Happy week all!

Oh, maybe add a link to the gender guess list?

I didn't discover baby wearing until my son what a good four months old. I had a Moby wrap and when he got too heavy for that I got a Sutemi Gear which I absolutely loved. Close to the end of his baby-wearing days, I made my first pouch and again was completely in love.

For my bean, I'm planning on making a ring sling and a fleece pouch for the newborn stage. For the summer, I'm planning on making myself a linen wrap and a onihumbo or Mei Tei (again out of linen). I'm also thinging about treating myself to one purchased carrier, probably a Hot Sling pouch or the like because I absolutely love some of the fabrics they come in, or maybe even the BaliBaby Stretch because I absolutely adore the color and design. I know that I was able to wear Michael in the Moby until he was almost 1, so I should be able to get as much out of the BaliBaby too.

I also want to have a simple pouch for my husband to use with this one - the wrap was way too much and he even got intimidated by the sutemi.

My favorite for a newborn is my Pea in a Pod sling, it fits very snug and holds baby up so close and perfect, I used it all the time when DD was little. After that, I like my New Native sling too, but my favorites are the soft structured carriers. I have an Ergo, but don't think it provides enough back support (the body is very very short) so I would like to get a Beco carrier this time. I also have a Kozy mei tai that I use for DD a lot now bc the body is long enough for her to fall asleep and have upper body support. If I had known I was going to have another for sure at the time, I would have just gotten the Beco when I got that!

My favorite sling has to be a hotsling(Hotslings.com)-it's a fitted tube sling. I got one when my 3 year old was about 8 months, and wish I would have had it from the beginning. I gave it away to a friend with a newborn who I have since lost touch with. One of my first thoughts when finding out I was pregnant this time was, "I get to get a new hotsling!!!" :

Yep, I'm a nerd.

I own 3 mei tai's (2 Grapie Baby Carriers and a Sachi) and LOVE the Grapies. I'll definitely use them with the new babe - as well as a Maya Wrap (I must get a new one for this babe ... each of my kids has their own sling that gets retired when they grow out of it!). I'd love a fleece Kangaroo Korner adjustable pouch and a nice blanket podeigi (sp???), having a February babe and all.

I've used slings with all my children and can't imagine mothering without them!!!

I used my Maya Wrap with my youngest and absolutely couldn't live without it, I knitted with it, did laundry, practically just lived with it on. It was awesome. I think I will either use that same one or I will maybe get a Hotsling cause they look wicked cool

I had a ring sling with my first (a taylormade) and I loved it and now I want a pouch and a BabyHawk! Ooooo... I really want a babyhawk

Oh and btw they are now carrying hotslings at Target!!!

For my DD i had this absolutely fabulous stretch mesh sling that combined the benefits of a ring sling with a pouch! If I could get a new one of them I really would, but the seller hasn't got back to me over the last 18 months when I've tried to get them for a friend. Perfect newborn sling it was!

I might try a hotsling, and I am getting my friend's ergo. I have a cotton ring sling I used after the stretch mesh (it was only good until she was about 6 kilos) which I'll hopefully still find useful

Actually what is weird for me is how much time I've spent researching strollers given how little I used one the first time around! But our lifestyle this time will be very different, for a start my daughter is starting school so this baby will be in and out the car twice a day at a minimum. So I thought a travel system might be the go in case baby is unlike it's big sister and actually tolerates the car and falls asleep! Will increase my options of keeping them that way lol

But travel systems are few and far between in Australia, so I've settled on a combo out of the few to choose from, one that connects to a simple stroller I can use for shopping once we are done with fulltime slinging. And I am also going to get a Mountain Buggy for walking, and because I wish I had one for DD now! It's a longer term investment, be more useful once babe is about 2+ but I might as well have it from the start! Cram Miss 4 in there until she is way too big on big outings while I sling the little one

I am definitely getting a stroller too. I don't drive and I need a good stroller to get my shopping done. Plus, there's a good chance this bean will be as big as my first, so my back will need a break from time to time. We are planning on getting a Phil & Ted's soon after the bean is born. I'd love to have the mountain buggy double, they look great and I've heard nothing but good things about them, but alas it's a little too rich for us.

I have a New Native, 2 Hot Slings, and a Kozy Carrier. I love my hotslings and Kozy. Dh likes the New Native because its bigger. I still use all of them with my 18 month old, though not as much as I did my 3 yo because she loves to be independent a lot more. My 3 yo isn't slinging anymore, though she just recently stopped... because my poor back just can't handle 45 pounds of child on it. (I used to sling BOTH girls. In fact, I posted a picture of it on here once. )

This time around I really want to try a Moby, because I haven't tried a wrap yet. And the stretchy appeals to me. I'm not really into the color patterns of the... crap... pregnant brain moment... the OTHER wrap carrier.. that is popular and I can't think of it for the life of me now... doh...

ETA: Maya wrap!

I my wilkinet- to put this in perspective, when I was sure my family was finished the first time around, it was one of the only two things I saved to pass down to the boys when they gave me grandchildren. That said, because this babe is going to want to go forward-facing as the warm weather hits, I think I'm going to need a lighter wrap- two layers of needlecord and padding in summer? No thanks. I'm looking at the maya wrap, but I'm open to persuasion...
If it turns out that this babe doesn't like the vertical, I'll consider a sling as well but because I tend to have fairly large babies (my smallest was 8lb 5, my biggest over 14lb) and I'm short, I find it easier to carry them with their centre of gravity high up on my chest.

Just got back from the doc!!!! Our baby has arms and legs and fingers and toes!! How exciting! He said that everything is looking great! I am sooooo relieved!

I love the question about the carriers and am looking forward to the answers. I have never had one. I just always carried them on my hip with my arm. I did just about everything with them that way. I bet it is easier with a carrier! If you post which is your fav, could you maybe also post a link where to buy it?? Or maybe a pic of it?? That would be awesome!

Carriers have changed so much since I had my DD! I have a Kangaroo Korner pouch that got a ton of use, and a Sutemi that got less. DD was one of those babies who eventually HAD to be facing out, so I stopped using them much around 6-7 months, since at that time there wasn't much available that faced out.

I think I'll get a Kozy or a Babyhawk, and maybe a wrap, but I'm not spatially talented, so I dunno. I also had a ring sling for a while, but for some reason it never worked well for me.

How wonderful!!!!

I have a new native and have loved it. For what it's worth they have a pretty good clearance section on their site. Seconds and overstocks. I got a sling for $24 that was just slightly faded. I didn't even notice! I think I'll get something like a hotsling or order one from slinglings in a slightly different size to give myself some flexibility. I wear an extra small and have no idea if it will work in the newborn stage.

Jezzy Are you serious about the toes???
I've got a sling that saritasmile made for me... it's SO wonderful, and beautiful, and I get loads of compliments on it whenever I wear it... on the other hand, it's been through two babies (in nearly constant usage) and It's showing it's wear. I may try to get another one from her. I had a Maya that I passed on to my sister; depending on how bit my niece is when SeaMonkey is born, I may get that one back. Oh, and the fleece pouch which is fantastic when it's cold.

One more thing-- when starting the thread for a new week, please post a link to the end of the old week's thread. That way you won't lose people.
