off topic: great, like I need more stress!

AARGH. My mother just emailed me. Apparently my alcoholic (not recovering) uncle is on the loose and my grandmother had told him a year ago where we live (not far from him). He does not know our address, I don't think, but he is going to family members houses, asking for money, and/or stealing money, checkbooks, etc if they are not home. My mother went so far as to tell us to hide anything of value, lock our house and car doors, and don't answer the phone. I am freaked out. If he is drunk there is no telling what he may do.

I am trying to not be overly worried- I don't even know if he knows my married name. I have not seen him in years but of course I am panicking.
AARGHHHHH!

Ohh I have a very similar uncle and thank goodness I live VERY far away from him. But I remember as a kid always being on "Uncle B-" lookout whenever he was "on the loose." It's so stressful. I'm sorry you're having to deal with this now!

Luckily, I have a ferocious beagle-dashchund mix who will attack!!! j/k, but our lab is a big barker and likes to be scary. Maybe that will scare him away.

I'm so sorry you have to go through this! We don't give our address to certain people in the family, just to avoid situations like this, and we live 600 miles from our closest relatives!
take your mom's advice...

OMG! We must be relatives because I have that very same uncle! UGH! Luckily I live on an island so mine can't get to me. And I haven't seen him in YEARS. But he has called me many times. Thank goodness for caller ID!

Hide your stuff. And call the police if he comes to your house.

Maybe you could get his description from family members -- maybe even a photo -- and call your local police. Tell them what's going on and that family says he's headed your way. Maybe they can watch for him since he should be cnosidered dangerous as well as criminal for stealing.

Oh gosh, I'm so sorry! The last thing you need is more stress!

My brother-in-law has a lot of "issues" and tried to do something similar to us once--my DH literally had to tell him that if we see him anywhere near here again he will call the police. Not fun. Gotta love family...

I would just keep the dog jazzed up, keep your doores locked, and try to avoid being home alone for a little while. Hang in there!

Heh. A car just pulled into the driveway (I am home alone) and I started getting all panicky. I locked all the doors and hid in the bathroom. Turns out it was just a car turning around.

Paranoia.. DH is off the next 2 days so I don't have to be all panicky by myself! He will protect me!

Oh, I'm so sorry you have to deal with this. Yikes! I'd lock the doors whether you're there or not and when you're alone have a phone on you at all times.

do you have a neighbor you could tell that could help keep an eye out also?

I am so sorry you are dealing with this
