My daughter started reading them to herself when she was in... 3rd grade? I doubt it was earlier. My son is going into 3rd grade this year, and I doubt he will be reading them to himself soon. Maybe in a couple more years.

When the first book was released.. so I would have been in Junior High : They came out sooo long ago. Thats why I always have to laugh when I go to book parties or what not.. they always do things for the kids.. I am like come on! I started reading when I was Junior High.. Now I am celbrating my 5th wedding anniversary and have 1 year old :

lol,and i agree about the movies.
You didn't read LOTR in 2nd grade. You spent a couple of years reading nothing but Harry Potter repeatedly- maybe with a few other books sprinkled in. You didn't start on LOTR until 4th grade, I think.

I started reading them around 2000, I think. I had been hearing all this crazy stuff about book burnings & how HP was the antichrist & I just had to see what the fuss was all about. I was hooked from like the first chapter .
