I plan on doing it as well. That way, my kids won't learn a new word when I scream it like when D. bit it in HBP.

I'm not worried about that. My kids already know all those words.

Me too! Perish the thought! I'm trying to convince myself that I can stretch it out by only reading one chapter a day! I mean, this is it. Period. Full stop. No more HP.

I don't know how to convince you because I just don't see the appeal of the ending over the story, the whole story leading up to the ending is what's so great, not knowing what happens next when each detail is revealed, etc. There is no feeling like that I think, wondering what will happen next, eager to get to that point, I wouldn't want to give that up.

Also, it is said that TWO characters are going to die, so someone might get kacked in the middle, rather than the end.

And so..you read the end, and you are smug about knowing who is to die then in chapter 23 someone bites it and you are stunned and way more upset than if you had entered into it with a complete lack of confidence.

Yeah, but it will probably mention all the deaths in the epilogue- if somebody has a Hogwarts Scholarship Fund named after them, or if A marries C because B didn't survive, or they list the names of all the surviving Weasleys or Order members and you notice who's missing, etc, or they just have two characters talking about who didn't make it and how sad they are.

I'm reading the last part first. I won't be able to sleep otherwise.

For those that pre-ordered through amazon do you still have to pay shipping charges?

I'm not going to do it.
I've been reminding myself that this is it; my last chance ever to read a brand-new Harry Potter story.
So, I have to appreciate every word, in the order they were meant to be read!

Thanks everyone!

Yes. I qualified for free shipping since I'm getting 2 copies (over $25) but then the books wouldn't arrive until Monday or Tuesday! If I'm not getting them delivered on Saturday, then I'm going to run out and buy them Saturday night (after Shabbat) or Sunday as early as possible- why would I pre-order just to have to wait until Tuesday?

So, I paid for shipping so they can arrive as early as possible.

While I could NEVER fathom the idea of reading the last bit of a book first... I wouldnt try to talk anyone out of it. Seems like if that's what you're gonna do, nothing I could write here would stop you, it would just serve to make you feel even worse for giving in to temptation.
that said... dont do it!

I just wanted to inform everyone who was kind enough to post in response to my original post...
I did NOT read ahead. I read the book as it was intended. I thought a lot about what one of the posts read... that this was it. I would never have the chance to read a new HP book again. That every other time I read it I would know the end, but not the first time.
I cried as I read the book, in sadness that this was it, that it would be over, and I wasn't ready. As much as I wanted to get to the end, I wanted it to last forever.
I hope you all had or are having a wonderful reading experience of your own.
