Another Name Thread: Too Much Rhyming?

I feel like this is the only place I can get honest opinions, because in real life, we're not telling anyone our name options. Just feels better to keep something a surprise, you know? So, if you could, internet friends, tell me what you think...

Our last name is German, two syllables, and has stress on the first syllable (like THOMas or JACKson). Our daughter's names are Maya Joelle and Ellery Maeve.

I love the name Micah. But does that sound too much like Maya? I think it probably does. We want to avoid alliteration, but since we've already broken the trend with Ellery, will it still be too cutesy to have a Maya and Micah? Will one come when I call the other, thinking I called them?

Thank goodness there are other names on our list. But I can't get this one out of my mind. Perhaps I should!

I don't think they're too close. I like the name Micah, too.
Honestly I think that could get a little confusing...BUT I LOVE the name and it's on our short list for a boy too!

I think they're too close. It's cutesy. I'm not personally down for cutesy.

Plus... that's tongue-twisting for life.

Stand alone, though, it's a good name!

Can you use Micah as a middle name as a compromise?
I think its cute. But I am kinda biased. My name is Katie and my sister is Sadie. :P

They do sound a lot alike, but they are great names. I really like Micah too. I was thinking of using it for a girl's name because my husband's name is Michael and we didn't name any of our boys after him. I thought it would be cute to have a Micah instead.

I think using it as a middle name would be a good compromise if you decide not to use it as a first.

Not too close. Micah and Michael would be too close. Maya and Meyer.

Hey, don't apologize for your honest opinions, folks. I asked for 'em. Opinions seem pretty split down the middle. I should've made this a poll!

Two other factors I just thought of:

1.) It's rather popular. Ranked #148 in the US in 2006, and has been in the top 200 for 10 years. I tend to lean toward less popular names nowadays.

2.) Our friends are having a baby this month. Her name is the same as mine, only spelled "Sarina" instead of "Serina." They are naming their son Micah.

Perhaps the name is not meant to be. I'll keep it around. Good thing I have time!

Yeah maybe its not meant to be...I was going to say I think its too close....but I kinda dig the alliteration thing just with another name.

i don't think micah and maya are too close at all! i agree with the pp that it's not like you're doing michael and micah or maya and myna or something!

i do love the name micah, though.

Its a little too close for my taste. If this is a girl she'll be Sarah, but we also like Samara. I just think they're too close to have both of them as well.

Too close.

I do like Micah, but do also think it's also a bit close. still, if you chose it, I don't think anyone would bat an eye.

As far as alliteration, my gal pal has a Mathew and a Michael (one is 10 months old, the other 10 years) and I cannot tell you HOW many times the names get switched and everyone calls them the wrong thing. Of course they are both boys, so that might make it worse.

same here, i like Micah, but it's too close... as a middle name it would be fine though!
I think it is fine, but maybe I am biased. I come from a family of 6 kids and our names are (in order of age):

Michael
Michelle
Morgan
Megan
Mikhail
Monica

Talk about confusing. Even I call my siblings by the wrong name sometimes!

I do think they are too close but that's just my opinion. However, both Maya and Micah are GREAT names!
