name opinions -- my turn

our son is Theodore Roosvelt -- after my dad (Theodore) and his dad (my Grandfather).....and Scott Dad and older brother -- Roosevelt is a family name.

our girl name will be Katherin Beatrice. Bea is my Grandmother and my Mom's middle name.

Our boy will be CHALRES ---------. Chalres is my Grandfather (Bea DH, Mom's dad).

Earl is Scott middle name, and I am guessing what we will end up using as Charle's middle name. MIL would LOOOOOOOVE that. she wants the boy names Scott Earl after DH, I gave Dh that option with Theo's birth and he refused it. Earl is MIL's dad, Scott Grandfather. I jsut do not like the name. to me it is uneducated, white trash and the TV is NOT helping me. Even if I liked the name -- to name a child any name that is a big tv name at the time of their birth is, to me, wrong ... he is gonna face a life of thinking that show is where we got the name, or at least having OTHERS think that. ALso Charles is very regal, as is Thedore, Earl is NOT -- it is -- to me -- hicks ville and trailers and 4 burent cars in the drive way.

We are also considering Samual, Joesph and Aberham -- all noble biblical names......and others .... Samual is also a family name on MIL side, maybe enoughto shut her up (riight nothign will shut her up, but maybe enough for me to act like i threw her a bone????).

Also there are no Saint Erals that I can find -- still looking...... I would be ok with a non-biblcal name if there was a strong Staint tradtion to it.

Dh has not had his say -- so far he jsut wants to give me crap with stupid suggestions....to push my buttons......and he tried to tell me "but Earl is Biblical too" -- I told him to find it for me int eh Bible as a Proper Name and we will talk ................but i fear i may have to accept this one

other suggestions, thoughts, advice......

Is your husband really attached to the middle name of Earl, or is it all your MIL? If it really, really means a lot to your husband, than you might want to consider it. After all, it's a middle name rather than a first name. My son's middle name (Leon) is not one I would pick if it weren't my father's name. The same is true of the name under discussion for this child (which we're not divulging until birth... in part to avoid conversations like the one you are having with your MIL!).

On the other hand, if your husband isn't desperately hoping for the middle name of Earl, then invoke your right to veto. It's your baby; your MIL got to name her own kids.

What about Scott as a middle name? You'd still be giving the baby something from your husband's name.

And I love the name Katherine Beatrice, BTW.

I have to say, I'm with you on the way Earl sounds. Good luck!

Whenever I hear "Earl" I think of that Dixie Chicks song about the husband named Earl that beat his wife and the wife and her firend poison him and throw him in the river.

Not the best connotation for a name:

I don't have any other suggestions right now, though. DH and I have the HARDEST time picking boy names that we agree on.:

not sure how much is scott really and how much is scott wanting to throw MIL a bone since we used a Packard family name for Theodore -- YK?

I can accpet it if I have to --- but -- come on.....all our other names are just so differnt than EARL.

Still working on something Biblical.

I just couldn't help but noticing how many names in your post I was familiar with! Our friends have two sons: Charles (Charlie) and Theodore (Teddy). My grandpa's name was Earl.

As much as I loved my grandfather, I can't bring myself to name my son after him. I just don't love the name Earl, even for a middle name. Just me. If you don't like it, hold out for another middle name that you can get your husband to agree with.
