I had planned on re-reading the whole HP series in preparation for the next book to come out. I want to be fully immersed in HP and ready for this book. I started rereading the whole series about 2 months ago.

Well, I now have just a few chapters left in Half Blood Prince, and ten full days until Deathly Hallows is released. I also have a full 45 minutes to read every day (M-F) while DS is in his swimming lessons, and possibly more reading time at the pool if we stay longer and DD plays with DS and I can't find anybody to talk to.

So, should I reread the entire series again in order? Reread the whole series in random order? Should I reread Book 5 to try and guess which parts they'll put in the movie and which parts they'll cut?

Or should I read something entirely different so I'm not sick of Harry Potter by a week from Saturday? But then I risk being all absorbed in, say, Frodo's story instead of Harry's when the book comes out. Should I stick to shorter books- like maybe stuff out of the young adult section of the library?

That's a tough one, but if you want a great series that will really suck you in and is quick to read you can try the Artemis Fowl one, but I'd probably wait until after HP7 to read it because it is so engrossing.

I'm scouring through HBP to search for any clues, so that could be another thing to do, though you have probably done that many times already.

I'm not big on rereading fiction. I voted for a variety of shorter books.

Well, you could read OOP again in preparation for the movie.

I vote that you should read Beauty - a retelling of the story of Beauty and the Beast by Robin McKinley.

It's in the junior section, and one of the best 'fluff' books I've ever read

Yeah, but how can I read those at the pool during your brother's swimming lessons?

Please, honey, spell out words properly. This isn't IM with your friends. Remember I'm supposed to be homeschooling you- you're making me look bad. :

Seriously, I need to sit in the shade and read- I can't handle being in the water for a full 45 minutes during his lessons, and I'd rather spend my "active time" playing in the water with him after the lesson is over.

Alternatively, you can come along to all swimming lessons and make me watch you on the high dive the whole time so books won't be an issue. Then again, we'll stay at the pool longer (more time for you to swim) if I bring along something to read.

I vote for Salman Rushdie's "Midnight's Children". It's neither short nor science fiction but it's a marvelous book and worth reading.

I voted start again with book 1 of HP, but only if you'll be able to finish them all before book 7 comes out... which is unlikely. Or just re-read them in any order starting with your favorite. I wouldn't try and read 5 and guess about the movie... that'll just set you up for disappointment with the move. I saw the midnight showing last night and had just finished OOP a few hours earlier... mistake

Actually, I picked up Birdwing this morning- it's about the Swan Brothers after the fact- what it's like for this guy to grow up with a wing for an arm.

It's the only children's book in the house that I hadn't read yet, so I figured it was a good choice. When that's done, I'll decide what to read next- most likely I'll keep hitting the children's collections, maybe we'll get to the library on Sunday.

Ruthla, my sister recommended I read "Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell" by Susanna Clarke and it was a really interesting book. I enjoyed it.

It is a nice big fat book (I *love* big fat books) with a lot of hilarious and totally made up footnotes (some of them are incredibly lengthy..which also made me laugh)

It is about Magic and takes place in the era of King George (the mad one)

I was planning on taking it with me to Jury duty but then I read it too fast (woops) and took GoF instead.

I am getting ready to read OotP again.

Also, if you haven't read Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett (though you probably have) I highly recommend it as one of the funniest books I have ever read.

Artemis Fowl is good but there are five books now, so that might be overmuch as a pre-DH distraction.

I'm reading Phillip Pullman's "Dark" trilogy, starting with The Golden Compass. I'm in the middle of book 2, The Subtle Knife. Good books.

I'm going to hang onto all these suggestions for after I've read HP&tDH. I just don't want to risk getting all caught up in a great book when DH comes out!

I may have less reading time than I anticipated- on Wednesday my Mom took DS to his swim lesson, and she's doing the same today. Yesterday I ended up chatting with one of the other moms, so I had less reading time than I thought (but then read while the kids played in the water when we went back to the pool in the afternoon.)
