Okay, sick of me already? Looks like Mara Jane Weeks is in the running for girl's name. But what about a boy?

I have three names that seem to fit okay so far for a boy. What do you think? One's sort of out there, one's traditional, one's popular/modern. One makes me worried that it might sound like a bad word if not said clearly

Give it to me straight!

I like Maddox and Thomas a lot, but am lukewarm on Axel... maybe because it reminds me of Axel Rose? Dunno, but that's my contribution to your decision making process.

Hubby was worried about Axl Rose too. Though Axel is his fave, he isn't sure others can get over the 80s.

I'm iffy on Axel because I see too many possible jokes in his future. I LOVE the name Maddox but the Angelina Jolie connection is a turn-off for me. I think Thomas is cute.

The first thing I thought of when I read Axel is Axel Rose. That might be tough as I think adults will associate the name with Axel Rose from the 80's, but his peers might not. I think otherwise it is a really great unique name.

So what's more important then? The kids or their parents? Who could guess as maybe when he's in high school it causes problems with teachers or other parents. I don't know.

I do believe Axl Rose was without the E though.

When looking up Axel on some site (not sure where) it looks like a popular name in Sweden and has become more popular since 2005 or so. I think it's 300 something on the names list. *shrug*

WHY is this so hard? Gosh. I thought this would be a breeze this time!

I really like Axel but worry about the connection to Axl Rose. We actually considered Axel for a girls name with DD but changed our minds due to our family. It is a cute name and so what if a famous person had it, every name has been around sometime or another it seems. Go with your gut!

I like Maddox best.

As far as Axel.... I have a friend who's dog is named this and when she called him to come in once when he jumped the fence, the neighbor asked why she was standing in the yard yelling, "A**********hhhhhhhhhole......."
So that would be enough for me!

I voted Axel. That name rocks. Our kids are not even going to know who Axel Rose is!!

I'm not a big fan of Axel for the reasons stated above, regardless of the fact that our kids probably won't know who Axel Rose is/was. I really like Maddox, but it is trendy, and Thomas would be good too.

Not in your ddc, but I vote for Thomas.

Axel is just trying so hard to sound he-man; when I hear that name all I can think is "Yes, you HAVE A PENIS!" (That, and "grease monkey").

Maddox, ok if it's a family name, but otherwise sounds like a soap-opera character. Plus the jumping on the celebrity bandwagon trendy factor.

Thomas has got going for it: classic, honest, many good associations, dress it up, dress it down, make it funky (Thom), translates well into other Western languages if the kid travels, looks good on a resume, very low teasing factor. An all-around excellent choice!

I liked Thomas the best... I thought the whole name just had a nice flow!

I voted Axel. It's one of our family names. Personally, I find Thomas boring and it always get shortened up to Tom or Tommy.

thomas is the only one of those names i like

I had to default to Thomas B/C Axel gives me Axel Foley from Bev Hills Cop (yes, I'm old) , and Maddox gets the celeb thing going plus I don't like that it starts with MAD (like angry) but I am ultra traditional for naming so I am of little help here!! sorry.. but between Axel and MAddox I like Maddox better

I like Thomas, but I'm a classic, traditional kind of gal.

When I saw Axel, I thought of Guns N Roses, and when I saw Maddox, I thought of Brangelina. If you really like one of them, though, I'm sure people would get past their first impressions.

I like Thomas best, too.

Dude, this is totally what I was referring to! I was worried that if it's not said really clearly it would sound wrong. Is it evil of me that this makes me laugh?

This makes me laugh!! Oh my gosh!!!!

BUT I do have to disagree on the celebrity thing. Choosing a name like Ava, Maddox, etc.. is SO not jumping on the celebrity bandwagon. That makes me irate. It's a beautiful, normal name, used for a long time and in regular baby books and sites. NOW If I choose Tallulah Belle or Pilot Inspektor, then YES, you may throw things at me as being a celeb wannabe.

My youngest son's is named Jackson. We've been asked SO many times if we named him after Michael Jackson. And I call him Jack... and many celebs chose Jack for their kids. *sigh*
