Low progesterone again

*sigh* This is so frustrating. My progesterone is always really low, even while on clomid. This time, I took prometrium (300mg/day) starting the day after O. My progesterone as of monday (4w1d) was 14.6. My doctor didn't seem too worried about it, but I'm getting another draw on Friday. If it stays the same or goes up, we'll keep the same dose of prometrium. If it goes down we'll have to adjust it.

Being the researcher I am, I had to look on the web, and discovered that sometimes a low level indicates a failing pregnancy. (which would explain why my levels with Riley were so low) I'm trying not to worry, but how can I not? I've already lost two babies this year, and don't want to lose another. My tests have been getting darker and darker, and I'm feeling more pregnant this time, but I'm nervous.

Not in your ddc but wanted to give a and tell you about my experience. I was 16 DPO (I forget how many weeks that is...4w something) and my progesterone came back at 12 (Hcg was fine). I started taking Prometrium 2 days later thru the 12th wk and now I have dd. So yours being at 14.6 at 4w1d seems good to me.

I had a m/c at the end of Feb and my progesterone was 2.9 at 4w5d (Hcg was normal high). I started Prometrium but ended up m/c anyways . I also had bleeding and a sudden loss of pregnancy symptoms during that short pregnancy as well before Prometrium.

I really liked reading the sucess stories at this website...

Again, 14.6 is low but still in the ok range esp if you have low progesterone anyways. Hang in there mama

Hi, Jill,

Crashing your DDC just to tell you I just read on tcoyf.com a post by a woman who had exactly the same progesterone at around the same time frame. When she went for her next blood draw it had shot up to 30something. If I find the thread I'll give you the link.

Just thinking of you and wishing you a sticky, sticky, sticky baby.

you can also consider switching to progesterone suppositories which are slightly more effective because they provide progesterone exactly where it's needed.

We know a few people who had low progesterone who have healthy children from those pregnancies now.

I'm using the oral prometrium as a vaginal suppository. Re said it worked good. I can hope and pray things will be ok, but that level is while already on the supps. After two losses in five months, I just have no hope. : And fully expect this one to fail, just because it hurts too much to believe.

thanks for the site tina.

okay, so that's not so bad then because using progesterone vaginally means that it doesn't show up as much in the bloodwork even though it's more effective.

It's so hard isn't it. Would an ultrasound be helpful? They'll be able to tell you a bit more definitively.

Have one scheduled for 7 weeks...the 30th. I'm still tossing the idea in the air that we should get hcg drawn this time, but last time the numbers were SO bad, and we still carried Riley to 11.5 weeks! I don't want to stress that much, you know?

Do you have any sources online about it being "off" by taking the vag supps? It totally makes sense, but it would make me feel a lot better to "see" it. You know?

Ok, beth, i need to to you. You got me motivated to research what you said, which is what I do best. (RE once told me I know so much I could be his apprentice)

I found this site, among many others:

and I feel so much better. I was almost sick with worry again, and now I am able to have a little bit of hope again. Thanks so much. :

No problem!

Our friend didn't really make it much over 20 with her daughter who is a happy and healthy 2 yr old now. She used suppositories too.

I always find the HCG numbers to be helpful. They let me know what to expect. But don't focus on the number but whether it's doubling or not.

Here's hoping all is well!
