41w3d-leaking waters(problem solved, baby was born hours after i posted this)

i'm about ready to curl up in ball and cry until this baby is born. i've been in labor 3 times in the last week and it's all stalled out after 8-12 hours. on tuesday at my regular appointment i had my midwife check me(my first VE with this pregnancy) and she stripped my membranes. within a hour i sprung a leak. i had a small gush of waters and my plug came out. i've been leaking enough that i have to change my pad every few hours, yet when we checked with the PH paper it came back negative. so it's been almost 36 hours with no steady contractions. i might get going for a hour or two and then things die down for a few hours. i've tried walking(fell and twisted my ankle yesterday), nipple stimulation, warm baths, an enema, sex(before i started leaking) and now taking a tincture my midwife gave me this after noon. i'm at my wits end here. i have to get a Biophyscial test and NST tomorrow. i know the OB's are going to suggest an induction which i politely refuse but i'm worried they may really find something wrong. i'll be 42 weeks on Sunday and i'll have to seriously consider giving up my homebirth or going with a UC. so as my last resort to avoid the hospital i'd told myself i'd try the castor oil. i think that time has come. please tell me i'm not being irresponsible. i know the side effects to me and baby. i know it may not work but i just don't know what else to do.

You're only just past 41 weeks? I don't understand the rush. Do you get risked out of a home birth after a certain amount of time? I know it's hard to wait, but you seem desperate for a different reason...

my midwives can't attend a homebirth after 42 weeks and i knew this from the beginning. they may be able to fudge my dates but it would only give me a few days based on my 20 week ultrasound and that's only if my Bio and NST test come back looking good. i think i would UC after 42 weeks but my DH would be in the dark about it. i worry about PPD if i had to do an induction. i've been planning a homebirth ever since my DS was born and i think i'd be devastated if i had to be induced again. i feel like i'm running out of time and my body is failing me. it's been a rough few days full of tears.

You said you were induced with your first one? How far over due were you then? It is normal to go over due, (which you know) But the stress you are feeling can not do you any good either. When the midwives hands are 'tied' that way as to how they practice, it does add other choices to what you can and can not do. Because of that, I would do the NST, and then try to be patient. Spend a quiet evening with your husband, have a nice candle light dinner, try to relax and a little more 'snuggles' with him, ...
If you relax in a car drive, go for a nice weekend drive... a long one. It will happen!
blessing to you!

Remember the castor oil may not even work..

I have seen acupuncture work well.

Can you look around for a DEM who can attend your birth at home past 42 weeks? Ask your midwife--often the CNMs know DEMs and can recommend them to clients who risk out of the CNM protocol (such as for breech, post-dates).

Don't do ANY more VEs with ruptured membranes...IMO it's very risky. Maybe check out the Vit C, etc. protocol posted somewhere here and some people take their temperature.

Can you research U/S techs and make sure you get one who isn't hysterical about results? And have your MW attend with you?

Best of luck!

Have any really bumpy roads for 4-wheeling? I told DH that I'm not going up to our farm anymore because the way he drives sends me into BH cntx. But, if I got overdue, we're heading to the farm and back.

Try relaxation, glass of wine, visualization. Good luck, I hope your baby gets moving for you on his own soon!

THe more freaked out and stressed you are about this, the less likely you are to go into labor. Stress and labor do not go together. Try to relax. Your baby knows what she's doing. Give her some space. Refuse testing and procedures if you don't want them; it's always your choice.

Don't do castor oil with ruptured membranes- the poo involved is messy and you put baby at risk of infection. The cohoshes would be an option instead, but in a situation like this the odds are that the reason your labour isn't picking up is either emotional or b/c babe is slightly malpositioned (literally, a fraction of a mm off in one direction or another.) I like the suggestion of bumpy off-road driving.
If you do decide to go with the castor oil, you're looking for contractions that start about 6 hours after taking it- or else ones that continue for a minimum of 6 hours getting more and more frequent. Castor oil will push any pregnant uterus into contracting, but that's not the same as labour...

My mom was at 43 weeks with my sister and decided to do castor oil. All it did was make her poop and horribly so. She ended up getting a pitocin induction. From what I understand there is a risk of the baby passing meconium if you take castor oil.

I've taken castor oil for two pregnancies at 41 w 6 days to avoid birthing in a hospital. Purely anectdotal, but I never had baby pass meconium in utero and it did push me into labor both times successfully. Had a 3 hr labor and an 1.5 hr labor. Considering the alternatives, I would (and probably will) end up doing it for the next pregnancy. We had tried sex (everyday beginning at 37 weeks), sweeping membranes, cohosh protocols, spicy food, and walking. Please update us when you can.
