Need help looking for midwives for VBAC

Hi,

This is my first time posting here. We are planning on ttc #2 in a few weeks. Am wondering if anyone has any recommendations on midwives and/or doulas in the NYC/NJ area. I am willing to travel. I would LOVE to try a homebirth but because I live in NJ, I don't think it is possible. I am looking for a midwife (or midwife group) with at least an 85% vbac success rate (I have found several in the 30% range).. my c-section was failure to progress. never dilated beyond 1cm. my ob broke my water at 1cm even though my baby was posterior and asynclitic. they administered pitocin and that was that.

i don't want any interventions for my next labor. i think a midwife is my best bet. do you think i can find a midwife who will take me on (my ob told me that i probably can't birth vaginally because i labored for 24 hours and never got beyond 1cm).

thank you for any information (even encouragement regarding vbac). you have no idea how important this is to me.

I would check under the local tribe heading to get better area-specific info! Good luck.

Try to find a local ICAN group as well for help. You CAN do this!

I also second posting on your local tribe, and contact your local ICAN group (don't think there is one in NJ yet, but there is at least one somewhere in NY). They also have a main list that you can post at for info.

Stay away from those groups with only 30% vbac success rates, yikes!!!! I do know of a midwife with an over 90% success rate with VBACs, but she is in N. Florida. You should be able to find someone closer to you.

Good luck, you can do it. And don't listen to the OB who said that you can't deliver vaginally. That is a bunch of bunk. I was also told that I wasn't a good VBAC candidate because I never went into labor (uh, because you c-sectioned me before I could ever go into labor because you thought my baby was too big...duh). I have yet to prove them wrong, but I will! You can too!

Don't have any resources for you, but I'm glad you are already preparing for a VBAC. Your OB is talking out his ...well, never mind. Things to remember:

1)Your body is designed to give birth

2)When the baby is ready to be born.... he/she will be born (without breaking water or pitocin to start labor)

3)Funky positions can really play havic on a labor/birth....especially when the BOW isn't there to help the baby turn into a better position. A well positioned baby tends to lead to a well applied baby head that also will help a cervix dialate.

My guess is, your body wasn't ready to have the baby yet. Being not ready along with all the interventions and funky position often does end in a cesarean birth. Your body isn't broken and you haven't convinced me there is any reason why you can't have a baby vaginally. Unless you count the OB already using scare tactics..... Prepare yourself physically, emotionally and surround yourself with a good supportive/ encouraging birth team and I bet you'll get your VBAC.
