Let's Talk Luna!

I admit it - : I LOVE Luna, she's one of my favorite characters, yet most people don't seem to talk about her much. What do y'all think?

First, I don't know if they will actually get together in the books, but I'm sure she totally Harry's soul-mate.

Also, I have read many things about her being the opposite of Hermione, etc...and I just love the idea of her representing faith (in a non-religious way) and an open-minded sense of possibility.

Harry could only make a "real" life, a real post-War future, with someone like her. I see the end as the beginning of their new life.

And last, I just think her Ravenclaw connection and her traveling with her father will lead to a Horcrux, plus some unrevealed history.

Would appreciate any all opinions.

I absolutely love Luna! She's so whimsical and free-spirited. Yes, I see a connection between her and Harry, but I wonder if JKR will expound on it in DH...

I think she's too "fluffy" to be Harry's soul mate. Harry's soul mate is obviously Ginny!

Luna is a fun character, but she seems to only believe things as long as there's no evidence to support it! She's very innocent in a childlike way- her sense of faith (that people will return her stuff when they're mean to her all year, that the crumple horned snorksack exists, etc) and seems to give people the benefit of the doubt. I can't see her holding a grudge. But sometimes she's just so spacey, so off in her own world, that I wonder how she'll ever take anything seriously.

Luna is going to hook up with Neville Longbottom. I totally see them together.

I think JKR already nixed that idea- of course, I can't possibly locate the interview where I read that, but I think she said something along the lines of them not being suitable because he's too serious and she's too fluffy.

I think I remember that. I love her character too.

I don't know. I would sure like to see it if JK has said that - I do know she said something about Luna not getting together with Neville.

I am probably more attached to this Harry/Luna idea than any ideas of who will live or die. It could be a red herring, but Daniel Ratcliff (HP in the movies) has said that he would think that in the end Harry will be with Luna. Also, if you consider it as a production company, the movies can provide some clues because they can't cut important characters or major foreshadowing scenes (or important red herrings!). She was in several scenes in the new movie and they did a major public casting call to cast her with a fan...hmmm?

Here's a soupy You-Tube I just found for anyone who wants to see the DR quote and have him explain why.

I do think there's something there...but whether JK has time to develop it in DH is a good point. Perhaps some foreshadowing to the future as a finish?

: Or maybe I'm just a romantic at heart...

I love Luna too! I love that she just doesn't give a sh!t what anyone else thinks And I really loved her in the new movie. I thought in the movie they were showing her and Harry as being pretty flirty with each other--did anyone else get that impression too?

I don't see her and Harry together at all. I like her character, but she's way too flighty for Harry.

I agree with those that say Luna is too flighty for Harry. I see them as good friends, but not more.

Hm..I dunno

I can understand the theory, there is a sort of quiet acceptance in Luna, as if Harry could actually be himself around her and not worry about things or living up to anyone's expectations.

I see that as a part of why Harry immediately takes her in as part of his circle. IMO, that is comforting to him.

She might be quite flighty, but she is so accepting, and has a soft sort of wisdom it makes her a very likeable character. (and she is frankly one of the most hilarious characters in the book)

After the movie, I can see it more. Luna tells Harry several times he is not crazy or gives him some insight, which was in the books, but it seemed to be emphasized in the movie.

But, I don't see it happening unless something happened to Ginny (oh no!) and I REALLY don't think Rowling would gank Ginny.

Oh I so totally agree. I have been so into this idea for a while and was afraid to mention it, but then my son came home from the movie and said, "Mom, they're totally hinting at Luna/Harry" - but perhaps he was influenced by our talks about Luna.

I adore Ginny but I think of her as a warrior - "Harry now saw red hair flyng like flames in front of him: Ginny was locked in combat..." and later Ginny said, "I knew this would happen in the end. I knew you wouldn't be happy unless you were hunting Voldemort. Maybe that's why I like you so much."

I know this is an unpopular view, but I do see Ginny as a sister to him more than a real love - she really idolized him even before knowing him, and then she was posessed by LV and became somewhat hardened...also she was pretty so he would get nervous around her, and then they just sort of fell into an affair after Harry had the luck potion - because he pushed her and she blamed Dean.

Plus there's that "hard, blazing" look on her face after she won the Quidditch cup in his absense and after Dumbledore's funeral.

Perhaps these ideas are jst loony themselves!

I think the warrior aspect of Ginny is exactly what makes her so right for Harry. They both share the bond of being willing to fight for what you feel strongly about. I just can't imagine Harry with someone as fluffy as Luna. And don't get me wrong, I like Luna- I think she is a wonderful character with her faith in people and her "don't give a damn" attitude but she just doesn't seem like Harry's type. As she stands now as a character, I would be disappointed if they ended up as a couple. Now, if JKR does something amazing with her in DH, I might change my mind.

I dunno...I just finished rereading HBP, and I think that Harry's feelings for Ginny are totally genuine. By genuine, I mean, not just because she's a pretty girl. JK really spends a good amount of time in the book showing how Harry's feeling about her, to the point that WE know he's crazy about her before HE does.

I can't see Luna and Harry together. I'm trying, I just can't. But maybe that's because I'd sell my toes to see Harry/Ginny live happily ever after.

Luna, though seemingly light and fluffy, IS in Ravenclaw. Isn't that the house with the REALLY smart people?

Couldn't Hermione have gone either way...Ravenclaw or Gryffindor...but I am guessing her courage was the more important part of her?

Anyway, Luna may not seem "bright" but she is in Ravenclaw. Maybe there is more to her than meets the eye.
Oh, I'm sure there's more to her than meets the eye! But I still don't think she's a good match for Harry. A good friend, yes, a mate, no.

I could see Hermione and Luna being the bridesmaids at Harry and Ginny's wedding.

Always the bridesmaid, never the bride?

But seriously, this is so much nicer than some of the HP lists: here everyone disagrees politely and dosn't get personal - I like that.

It'll be fun to find out what role Luna does play, though I hope to savor the book one chapter a day, so probably won't know for a long time!

I could live with this. Then Harry would have a lovely, extended family with the Weaslys, who have all been treating him like family anyway all this time.

I do like Luna, though.
