Well, I cracked.

My OB and DH have both been trying to talk me into having a scheduled induction, and I've been adamant about not doing it. Today we sat down and had a long talk with our OB, and he really feels like it will be in mine and the baby's best interest if we induce. He thinks (by palpation & ultrasound) that the baby is well over 8 pounds by now. I'm dilated to 2 cm already (!!!) and very soft. And with all the issues we've had with me and the baby, he wants to be sure that he's on call when I go into labor, especially since the baby has not been 100% cleared of having potential health problems at this point. He stressed that this was NOT for his convenience in any way, and that if I felt uncomfortable with being induced, he would not recommend it. My DH really feels like we should. I'm still not completely on board, but they talked me into it today.

So we're scheduled to go in at 5:30 AM this Monday, July 16. I will either be 40w2d or 38w5d, depending on which due date we're going by. (We're not completely sure of our conception date -- ultrasounds said EDD was July 14.)

Anyway, wish me luck! I hope I can still have a reasonably decent labor and stop feeling like a failure between now and then.

Don't be too hard on yourself. Some of the best advice I've gotten is to make a decision and align my energy with it. Anticipate that it will go well. I was induced with my last about a week before her due date. Even though I was induced and had an epidural, I felt that it was a very smooth, peaceful birth. Started pitocin at midnight, felt the urge to push after 7am, and had her out in one push with no tearing. She went right to nursing. It was great!

I hope your birth goes well!

Don't feel that you cracked. It sounds like you have taken into acount all the information given to you including the feelings your spouse has for you and your baby's health, and made a decision from there. That sounds like an educated choice to me. Best wishes for a great birth on Monday!

I second the above mamas encouraging you to be gentle with yourself! We all do the best we can with whatever situation we are in, and it sounds like you have been through a lot in exploring what is best for you and the babe. Affirm yourself for doing what you feel is in the best interest of the babe and yourself, and know that you are an awesome mama already! I had labor start on my own with DS1, but agreed to Pitocin after 24 hrs. of labor d/t pre-eclampsia, and it was fine... definitely got things rolling more. I just wanted you to know I could relate to having to change plans on something I had strong feelings about. I'll be sending you great thoughts Mon a.m.! GOod luck, mama!
