Are Iodine/Potassium, Digestive Enzymes, and Adrenal Diseccated safe while BF? Got them from my ND who knows I BF, but I just want to make sure?

I am almost 100% certain enzymes can't hurt you. Your body makes them anyway, so what you don't need just isn't used. Enzymes are a staple here.

The others I have no idea, sorry.

Potassium is an antagonist of sodium & adrenal patients have a sodium/potassium imbalance - lots of sea salt is recommended & it is also recommended to try to cut back on foods high in potassium - have you checked out the adrenal thread?

Enzymes are fine & I take raw adrenal extracts while bfing my Ds, I also take bioidentical pregnenolone for adrenal fatigue.

Is the iodine a potassium iodide? Not sure how much potassium is really there, it's just the other half of the salt (and I'm not sure what other iodine options there are--well, I take that back--there at OTC kelp supplements). I took high doses of iodine (Iodoral, then kelp) for thyroid problems while nursing--iodine (and selenium, if you care) transfer through to breastmilk at higher rates than most minerals (most top out at a certain point, they seem to limit). But I figured I was low, so baby was low too (I also took selenium, used the same rationale).

I've read iodine can mobilize mercury (from amalgam fillings, for example) and that wouldn't be good while nursing, but a) I didn't know at the time, and b) I didn't realize what other options I may have had, but I knew I was barely functional. Not sure if it caused any problems for baby or not. I'm taking adrenal supps (different kind, but I think the same idea) while nursing, and my HCP told me directly it was fine, and I'm supposed to have that stuff in my body anyway, this is meant to replace what I'm not making on my own.

No real advice on the iodine, you need to make your own call. Sorry.

Thanks for the responses.
It's Iodoral and it has 5mg of Iodine and 7.5mg of Iodide(as potassium salt).

I wish I could just have 100% in my doc but I am worried about the potassium/salt relationship and the iodine and BF.
If only I didn't have to worry. :

I got curious, so I went looking around. Potassium iodide is KI (1 atom of each potassium and iodine), so it seems like 7.5mg should be roughly half potassium. Given that typical daily intakes of potassium are in the 1500-2000mg range (more if you eat lots of fruits and veggies), that doesn't seem problematic to me. The iodine is trickier, though. : There aren't any easy answers to any of this. Good luck.

Thank you so much for looking. I have an apt in 2 weeks with my ND and will ask her what she thinks.
