Making Hemp Drapes!

Thread Starter
I think I would like some hemp drapes and they are SO expensive to buy, so I thought maybe I could sew some up myself!

Anyhow, has anyone done this and if so, what is the best weave of hemp to use?? I visited hemp traders and I think the hemp muslin looks good, but not sure.

If anyone could help me out/ lend some advice, I sure would appreciate it :

How much light do you want them to let in?

I'd go with lined muslin or a twill personally. You want something that isn't too soft or too thin unless you're going for that sheer look.

Thanks! Yes, I do not want too much light ~ I had read that hemp is a good insulator and actually I wanted to make these instead of buying the "thermal" drapes, which many of them are made with pvc and other plastics.

Thanks again!

Stacey at Cloth Diaper Supplies (a yahoo group) coops a hemp/silk that looks like it would be awesome for drapes. It's $10 / yd, and has a nice, slightly nubby texture. I haven't bought any, so I'm just going on the pictures and what others have said.
