Dh "gave in" to homebirth, but isn't happy about it - Page 2

I agree with the suggestion to bring him to a midwife visit.

Do you have any sort of local birth network or homebirth support group? Maybe if he went to a meeting and met lots of people who had had homebirths, it might help to normalize it for him. I've always been an NCB proponent but wasn't ready for a homebirth until baby #3, by which time I had two friends who had had homebirths and was meeting many more women at my son's preschool who had birthed at home with the same midwife.

Buy the book "Unassisted Childbirth: An Act Of Love" and let him read the part written by the husband.

Don't be scared by the title, I definitely DO NOT recommend unassisted childbirth - I recommend this book only because the part of the book written by the author's husband will help allay his fears a lot. Men are emasculated in the traditional hospital birth model, and conversely men are empowered by a homebirth too, not just women.

Also, be thankful he is in fact on your side and will let you do it. After it is all over he will be converted for life. It is such a thrilling and wonderful experience, after our HB my husband said we would NEVER give birth in a hospital again!

That's an easy decision: have a home birth.

Time makes a big difference. We were in the same spot a year or so before getting pregnant. By the time we were expecting DH was talking to everyone about homebirth like it was all his idea. He is great.

Although we're not ttc till sept I started really reading about all the hbs on MDC and doing my own research over a year ago!
Dh was very skeptical but willing to do it if that's what I wanted
I've talked so much about it and showed him all the statistics and now he's not only on board for it but VERY excited about it and tells his friends about our HB plans
We are about finished with putting a new addition on our house and it was my HUSBAND who did hours of research on the net to find the perfect garden tub to birth in He wanted to make sure it was a nice deep one with a good layout
If that's not a complete 180 I don't know WHAT is!
