Summer reading suggestions

I'm looking for some suggestions for great books to read!

Some info;

I am looking to get really drawn in, but would like to avoid anything too depressing or difficult emotionally.

Types of books I mean...

Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris - this is great - I loved it and laughed a ton!

Jane Eyre
Animal Dreams by Barbara Kingsolver
Cold Sassy Tree - Olive Ann Burns

A pretty wide range - no science fiction/fantasy though.

Thanks!!!

Anything by Jennifer Weiner.

If you haven't read it yet...Summer Sisters by Judy Blume

Illumination Night by Alice Hoffman is also pretty good. All of her stuff is, except I hated White Horses, but it also had an incest theme--yuck.

Water for Elephants (forgot the author's name)

Of course, if you're not looking for anything overtly intellectual, there's nothing like a good romance novel.

I really like the historical non-fiction by Alison Weir. She has a fiction book about Jane Grey but I haven't read it yet. Considering how Jane Grey was beheaded it might not be very cheerful.

Prodigal Summer by Barbara Kingsolver is one of my all time favorites.
