something to make all you intactivists smile!

Because the hospital I was going to deliver at was too crowded, I got transferred to a different hospital for my delivery. When my first son was born, I had him circ'd (I didn't know any better at the time). I remember at the this "old" hospital they asked me several times if I wanted him circ'd, and they lined up all the baby boys every morning outside the rooms so they could go in for their procedure. I just assumed this was standard. Now THIS time around at the "new" hospital, I never was asked at all if I wanted to circ...not that I wanted to have it done anyways! I thought it was interesting though, so I asked one of the nurses about it. She said that this hospital is very progressive, and they just assume that most women do not want it done these days unless it's a religious ritual. They don't even DO circ-ing there, you have to find a pediatrician to do it for you after you leave the hospital. I thought that was such great news!

Wow! That is great. Do you mind me being nosy and asking what state you live in?

Wow, that's awesome!

From another DDC...and holding my breath here! Could it REALLY be that hospitals in this "advanced" country here are finally coming around and seeing that most of the crap they do to newborns is unnecessary evil? OMG, there IS hope for America!!!

Well, that made my day!!!!! BTW, I'm so proud of you for not circumcising your new precious baby boy, especially since your first was done. It takes an incredible mom to see what's best for their children, even though it's against what sociey dictates.

That's great!

That's excellent! I'd also love to know what state you're in... I'm in Western WA and the only hospital in my county that performs routine infant circumcisions (I assume they all would perform medically necessary or adult circumcisions) is the Naval Hospital. According to my midwife there are only one or two peds in our county who will even perform them I didn't know it was like this anywhere else in the US though!

love and peace.

They don't ask about circumcision here either and I was told by the hospital staff it's due to the fact insurance companies do not pay for it anymore and consider it a cosmetic or religious procedure. So if someone wants their child circumcised, they have to pay out of pocket which is a real hassle for hospital billing staff.

That is good to hear.

My hospital doesn't ask either, you have to request it and then schedule it with the pedi, to be done at their office.

For those that asked about what state I'm in, I'm in California. The hospital I delivered my first two babies at was Kaiser. This new hospital was Sharp Mary Birch

That is awesome! I delivered my son in San Diego as well, but at UCSD and they do not offer or promorte circumcision. If you want it done you have to schedule with the pedi and they request you wait 4-6 weeks so as not interfere with breastfeeding. We did not circumcise and I am glad to know that they are not promoting it. From Nov DDC.
