New 40+ Weekers thread

Hey ladies! Hope all is well with you. Some of us (ahem) are doing the prodromal thing, some of us feel like nothing at all is happening, but all of us are giving our babies the lead, and letting this happen!

Let's keep telling ourselves- two weeks from now, we'll have babes in arms.

to us all. I need to go lie back down again.

Hi Clara - Didn't think I'd see you here, but here we are. :
Since I seriously doubt I will have a baby in less than 6 hours (barely having braxton hicks, even) I'll post a hello here.
I'm still pretty content to have the extra time.... if we have another 90+ day, I'm pretty sure that attitude will change quickly. I'm just feeling mellow about the wait...so far.

BTW, I'm seeing a very hands off/wonderful midwife.... she's recommending a non-stress test before our normal Thursday weekly appointment. Is this pretty standard for everyone once you are 40 weeks??
She doesn't even blink till 42 weeks so she said it is just to check fluid levels, etc. but just wondering what others advise.

I had the non-stress tests with Josh since I had high blood pressure, etc... and even though it is a different hosptial, etc. I just am trying to prepare for the potential anxiety caused by things that are similar to last time.
But hopefully, I'll go into labor before then(-:

Jessica, not sure if it's standard everywhere. It might be something she chooses to do for liability-sake. My MW gave me a cute handout about being "overdue" that says at some point after 41 weeks they can aim us in the direction of a non-stress test (as well as a few others), but as usual we can decide what we want to do. I can guarantee that if I was having a hospital birth, I probably would've been induced already in this neck of the woods, as everyone out here not connected to my birth is in absolute shock that I'm over 40 weeks, contracting, and "no one's doing anything about it."

Panthira- Tell me about it! Especially with this prodromal stuff. I need to go read past DDCs now to see how long some of those mamas were in prodromal land.

Guess I just have to laugh! I'm perfecting my poker face to be sure.

So... anyone up for a pineapple-RRL tea smoothie? : Boy, how weird would that be?
My midwives said they would like me to get a NST at 42 weeks, but I have a plan up my sleeve to push that to 43 weeks.

Ooooh I have to look up that recipe.. the concentrated RRL tea tincture thing (obviously I don't remember how to make it) that is supposedly gaurunteed to put you into labor and an easy one at that... hmmmn... I found it on MDC with my last baby, and wish I'd kept the recipe.

Well, there's this:
"As for the extra-strong, during labor concotion, it's 'On one ounce of raspberry leaves pour one pint of boiling water, cover and let steep for 30 minutes.
Strain, and when the time for delivery is approaching drink the whole as hot as possible."

I've heard this can also bring on labor.

I've been having stronger and stronger contractions, but nothing regular enough. I'll be 40 weeks tomorrow. I was super-anxious about this baby getting here before, but the last few days I've been feeling so non-chalant about it... almost as if being this pregnant is just my life now and I feel ok about that. Kind of like it'll be this way for the rest of my life even though I know logically it's only 2 more weeks or so. It's very weird. He definitely dropped, though.

Hi ladies!

I am from th June Due Date Club, but came across this posting. No body is yet to respond saying that they are approaching their 43 week like me.

I have tried everything but castro oil, which my husband went to the store while I was napping and bought some I have been taking B&B Cohosh for the past two days, 1 dropper full every hour for 8 hours and am taking a rest today. I will start back up tomorrow. I am back and forth with the idea of castro oil. I don't know if I want to be that uncomfortable entering labor.

Hope your baby comes soon! I can't imagine being that late, but who knows, maybe I will, yet!:

OH Sarah, bless your heart! My first was 42 and a half weeks late. I was pretty calm till the end and then it really was stressing me out. It can't be too much longer honey! As far as the castor oil. . . I say only take it if you want. I took it and cohashes and had my membranes stripped and none of it made my labor start. Here I am "overdue" this time too and I'm just not motivated to try hardly anything cause none of it worked last time. I'm just barely overdue this time and my guess is once I get to 41 weeks I might change my mind and try to start some natural induction stuff. But really if these babies want to stay in they seem to do it no matter what you try. I feel like this one really wants to follow in his sister's footsteps and I'm seeing myself pregnant for at least another week right now. (I was only due last friday)

When my little girl did come out she did not look overdue at all. I think some babies just need to cook a little longer.

We have had our house on the market the last month and just tonight got a contract that we accepted. I'm hoping that knowing our house is sold is going to help me relax and feel ready to have this second homebirth. It was hard to mentally accept that the baby could come any day while also trying to keep our house spic and span and having home showings almost everyday.

I am a day away from 40 weeks and feel no where close to labor at this point. Lots of on and off contrax, but nothing that leads anywhere. I am sick of the swelling and just being so physically unable to do anything, I was very active right to the end with my others. I went to 42 weeks with my first and 40w5d with my second (only 39w4d with dd, seems short somehow ). I am focused on keeping a positive attitude this time around. Easier said than done sometimes, but I don't want to feel miserable for weeks yet. I am getting bored with all the projects I have invented for myself though but can't do any of the things I would rather do (we have a ton of landscaping projects I am itching to get to, tried shoveling today though and now I am a wreck!).

Wow, 43 weeks is amazing, good for you Mama for waiting for your babe to be ready! That takes courage in such an interventionist society

I'm here too. Had very few contractions today in spite of very regular contractions yesterday... oh well. Hoping that tomorrow will be full of productive contractions!

Sarah, welcome, and I hope your baby arrives soon!! It can't be much longer, right??

wow, Sarah! I hope that castor oil does the trick! Are you going to do the "Mix 2 oz oil with 4 z orange juice and a teaspoon of baking soda" trick? Or something a little more "naughty" (lol) and go with some root beer or Orange Crush? If it kicks off contractions, pay attention to what happens when everything's out of your system. If the cxns are still going strong about 5-6 hours later, you may have kicked off the real deal! Good luck!

In other news, I'm trying not to get too excited, but I have been up since about 3:30 with massive nausea (oh please can I just barf to feel better?) and contractions. Could be absolutely nothing, of course, just like the rest of this past week. I'll keep everyone updated!

Today is my last day of acupunture. I hope this does the trick! I started back on the cohosh this morning, my contraxs have slowed since yesterday but it feels like the baby has dropped, yeah!

Pwit congrats on selling the house hope everything goes through ok.

Anyone else here and still not have baby names... lol.
We have a list of 6-7 names for both gender.
Last time we at least had it narrowed down to 2.

I want to leave the hospital as soon as we can, but I know that we'll want to leave with a name, lol. That will be fun... NOT!

We never have names beforehand. We just can't name someone until we officially meet them, it feels wrong somehow

We named our 1st after a night of deliberations, it took 2 days to name ds2 and it took 3 days to name dd. We have absolutely no idea with this one either so it may take weeks!!
Wow Sarah, 43 weeks is tough stuff and I can't imagine. I hope you go into labor very soon!

We also have no name for our baby. We always have a name picked out by now but this one alludes us.

This is an odd question, but does anyone else feel like they're completely roasting in the middle of a contraction? Every time I have a "big one" (doesn't happen with BH or the minorly painful ones), I feel like I'm on fire.
