My midwife and her assistant conference called me last night to tell me that they won't attend me at home (only at the hospital where MW has priviledges).
Their reasons were that when the assistant came over, not everything that they would have needed for the birth was in the same room. Most of the supplies are up there, but the heating pad was in the car, trash bags, bowl for the placenta and cookie tray (for their instruments) are in the kitchen. It was a big deal to the assistant that the bed wasn't made up the way they specified (it's an air mattress, I don't care if it gets dirty) and she basically said that we're not being responsible enough to have the baby at home.
MW also said that she doesn't want to do it at home because my iron level 2 1/2 weeks ago was 8.9 and that I'm at a greater risk for excessive bleeding because of it.
They're telling me this now, at 38 weeks. I don't think I'm willing to go to the hospital. I've always had low iron during pregnancy, and I've never had a problem with bleeding.

: I don't have any of that stuff done and I am 2 days overdue! I am so sorry mama, I don't know what to tell you. That is really rotten to do that to you in the final stretch. As far as iron, can't you take floradix or something just to boost your iron count?
I'm so sorry you have to deal with something so stressful this late in pregnancy but if it helps they told me last time that I wouldn't be able to birth at home about this late last time. Don't give up. I think the doula idea is a great one, can you afford it? What about a birth centre as a compromise? Do they have access to one? To be honest though I would feel a bit put out and distrustful of them at this point, not like they would be listening to me during labour. Check out other midwives... don't know what else to say, good luck!

: for you
