In reading about RAST testing in other threads, I have to admit to some small amount of jealousy. DS is 2.5 now, and I had him tested when he was 18 months old. The did the back test with the multi-pronged "applicator", and then they drew blood. They couldn't get a vein on the first try, so I took a deep breath and agreed to a second attempt. I'm sure I don't need to tell you how awful that was. They were able to hit a vein the second time and we got through it. But when we went back for the results, they told us that they didn't have enough blood to do all of the testing, so we basically got nothing but trauma from the whole experience. Needless to say, I was annoyed--to put it mildly.

Does that sound off to you? Is it possible that maybe they dropped the vial? It just has never made any sense to me that they wouldn't have had enough blood--shouldn't they know how much they need before they start poking? I don't get too worked up because there's simply nothing I can do, but it just seems weird.

I took him back for a check-up in May, and I thought maybe they would re-test to see if he had outgrown anything. They didn't want to--maybe because he'd had Zyrtec recently. I dunno. How does your allergist handle re-testing?
