Easiest Possible Beginner Summer Dress Pattern?

Anyone have a suggestion? I was going to give up on making things for myself but I am soooo hot and soooo broke and 6 mos pg so I figured I'd give it another shot. (I'm notoriously bad at making clothing for some reason... out of a dozen attempts NOTHING has come out as something anyone could wear in public) I have a ton of fabric and can pick up some bargain bin stuff from walmart pretty cheaply, but cannot find clothes that fit me for less than $20-$30 each, which I cant justify wearing for 6 months max. Atleast w/ fabric I can just cut it up and make baby stuff or smaller things out of it afterwards.

When I was pg during the summer I took a hunk of fabric (a big rectangle) and I sewed it into a tube. Then I put a casing at the top for elastic, another casing to go under the bbs and I hemmed them into tops or sundresses. Some I put straps on. They were so cool, so cheap, and so easy. Each took very little time and little fabric since there is about zero waste! You could doll them up with rickrack or ribbons! Seriously, hemming and 2 casings!

I've made tons of simple A line sun dresses for my dd. I don't think they are as easy as the tube dress, but pretty good for a starting place. I got the patterns when either JoAnn's or Hancock had patterns on sale for $.99 It was in one of their "It's So Easy" sections. I know each company calls that section something different, but it's similar to that. If there is a Hancock Fabrics near you they have McCall's patterns on sale for $.99 the first weekend of August. McCall's patterns are one of my favorites and they don't seem to have as much of the age inappropriate wear as some others do.

Today at Walmart I saw partially made dresses wrapped on a board like plain fabric; you can get how many yards you like and would only have to wrap it in a tube and sew up the back.

Our WM is closing the fabric dept. and currently has all the fabric, including the fabric mentioned above, for 50-75% off.
