Well Sharita has had six kids so I think she probably has a pretty good personal yardstick to measure where she should be at at six weeks pp. My cervix is quite low also, much lower than is normal for me, and I have recently found that the whole woman posture really helps to keep things better positioned. On the days that I stand up properly, my pelvic organs do too. On the days that I slouch more, my pelvic organs do too. I've found that the reasoning behind whole woman posture is simple and makes sense. You are basically standing and moving in a way that allows your pelvic organs proper support and positioning. Istead of lying on your vagina, they lie on your pubic bone. The best thing about it is that it is something that you can start doing ruight now towards fixing your prolapse.

Hi mamas. I just started a new thread on this site with a list of questions to ask a surgeon if you're considering surgery for POP. My friend just came up with them, she is amazing. A great guide for those who, like me, are less methodical and more scatterbrained.
The thread is called "Questions to ask your surgeon if you're considering surgery for POP", or something like that.
Wishing you all healing!

Fruitful Womb, I can't wait to hear your controversial treatment........
Don't keep us hangin' woman!!! |
When your pregnant your uterus seem to go back into place right? A lot of remission happens when your pregnant. I get a break from my IC only when I'm pregnant. It must be the hormones. On that note, I tried something not many would do. I prepared my saved placenta and took six big gulps of it. And let me tell you, THAT WAS THE WEIRDEST MOMENT OF MY LIFE!!!!!!!!!!! I was in an altered state of energy for days! My dh even noticed. I did this because, well, for one thing I was desperate, and thought wth what can it hurt, it just might help. I think it did. The hormones that supported the uterus were once again back in my body. Would I do it again? Probably not the way I prepared it the last time. That was pretty hard for me. It reminded me of the Fear Factor show. I'm not so sure if this effect will last because I starting to feel my cystocele again. Its really discouraging. I'm not kidding when I say its like a water balloon in my vagina. But for two days after I drank my placenta (some of it) I felt normal. Everything was tight and in place. The next time I'll hire a Chinese Dr. who will prepare the placenta for me. They'll dehydrate it and put it in capsules. I hear it can be useful for menopause. My main intention will be to speed PP recovery.
About the MW, for the pp concern... I asked that same question. I'm thinking about UC next time because during the last 3 deliveries the same MW freaked out at the very end. If you do a MW go to someone who will support a delivery while you don't push. I think its called fire-breathing. Is that what they're talking about when they say breath the baby out? Women in comas can give birth vaginally. Your uterus is going to push the baby out with or with out you. In our case of POP its better to let our bodies do it on its own. Its a good idea to breath the baby out to avoid POP in the first place. Does anyone else feel betrayed that our MW's never told us POP was possible? I wish I knew better.
When I was pregnant with my last baby, I took Hypnobirthing classes and learned about breathing the baby out vs. pushing. I fully believe in this technique and would recommend it to anyone. When it came time to birth my baby, my body was so overwhelmed with the urge to push that I couldn't help it. (I tried the breathing technique to breath him out, but my body just took over) I have seen home videos of women 'breathing' their babies out and it is awesome and inspiring. I wish I was able to breath him out, as he was birthed very rapidly and I am 5 weeks PP and have been diagnosed wit stage 1-2 uterine prolapse. I think it is due to him being OP and from the very rapid birth. Also, I gave birth to twins 3 years ago and maybe it is possible that from being so huge preggo with them that the weight of my uterus put a lot of pressure on the ligaments that hold the uterus up in place and made those ligaments more lax. I don't know, just a guess there :-) I do agree with you that women should be informed that POP is possible and what to do to prevent it.

Hi ladies, I am glad I was directed to this thread. I have replied to a pp, but I feel I should introduce myself. I birthed my fourth baby 5 weeks ago and have since been diagnosed with uterine prolapse. My gyno believes that is should improve 40-50% on its own. I was diagnosed about 2 weeks ago and I feel it has not gotten better yet. I go back for a re-eval in 2 weeks and the again at 2 months PP. I want to avoid surgery, and I do want to start exercising again. I gained 80 lbs in this last pregnancy and still need to shed about 60 lbs yet. I was told by my Gyno to not do a lot of walking and to not exercise yet because it can make it worse. Though, my MW told me to do speed walking, core strengthening exercises, and kegels to help it improve. Also, the gyno told me that kegels will not help the prolapse because kegels only affect the bottom third of the vagina....I am so confused, who do I listen to? My last labor and birth was very rapid and my ds was OP. I feel like his position at birth and how rapid the birthing stage was is the main reason I have this prolapse. My MW believes that having been prgnant with and birthing twins previously has had an impact on me developing the prolapse as well. I have tried to do a little research about this on my own, but so far all the sites I have been to have regurgitated the info from the first website I visited. I am worried that walking and exercising and carrying my baby in a sling (which he loves) is all going to make the prolapse worse, but these are all things I need to do and want to do. I have read a few posts so far on here and saw somethings about certain vitamins to take that may help and to visit the whole woman website also. I also saw something about chiropractic care. Does this really help a POP? My MW feels that the prolapse shouldn't get worse because it was caused from birthing babies, though my gyno says it could. I hate recieving conflicting info..I don't know who to believe. I am very thankful for this thread....I am hoping to find more good info as I go through the 70+ pages of posts..lol If anyone feels like sharing a success story in response to my post; feel free..I would love to hear what has worked for other women with a prolapsed uterus.

Also, I want to add; I have heard that periods are very painful with a uterine prolapse. I haven't found any info about this on my own and have not had a period yet (hopefully i won't for a long time because I am BF'ing) so if someone could let me know if this is true, I would appreciate it :-) Also, my DH and have not yet resumed a physical relationship, which I know intercourse can be painful with POP..so if you wanna share anything you ladies have done to avoid painful intercourse, i am willing to hear your techniques. This may sound stupid; but is it ok to have an orgasm with a prolapsed uterus? Does it hurt or make the prolapse worse?
Thanks again ladies!

Is this going to ruin my marriage? Sex has become such an issue between me and DH that I am worried now. I had a uterine prolapse with my 5th pregnancy (to the opening of vagina, not outside of it though) that went MOSTLY back where it belonged after but not quite. Id say a little like 3/4ths back to where it belongs. (my cervix) It didn't really affect our intimacy though. Then pregnancy #6 (this most recent and last one) I had such severe SPD that the last month we couldnt really do much without me being miserable so needless to say we had issues but he was very much looking forward to PP and 4-6 weeks things getting normal again. However, I am 6 weeks PP and my cervix is only 1/2 the way back where it should be now it is quite saggy. We were intimate for the first time last night and with positions that didn't require deep penetration things were fine but others (actually anything but missonary) are off limits as my cervix is hit and it makes me bleed (not bad just spot). Am I doomed to deal with this from now on? Is my sexlife with DH forever limited now? Do I look into hysterectomy? I am at a loss and depressed.
Sharita-
If you are in Chicago, you should book an appointment with Dr. Roger Goldberg at Northshore University. He wrote the book "Ever Since I had my Baby". I saw one of his associates and she made me feel sooo much better. They are not surgery happy. The practice referred me to an awesome physical therapist at Lake View Physical Therapy http://www.lakeviewpt.com/. I also found that chiropractic treatments helped a lot with all my issues. I go to Community Chiropractic on Belmont and Southport.
As far as your sex life....I actually find that penetration is the best for lifting everything up. Your uterus should just go into it's normal (non prolapse) position. I'm assuming that the bleeding is lochia? Otherwise I would just do some inverted poses before sex to encourage everything to go back up.

i wear a pessary most of the time. it helps to hold stuff up until your ligaments get back in shape. i also like yoga and core exercises. the pessary lets me dtd without pain.
hi ladies im new here. im 26 and i have one child. i m diagnosed with a global prolapse, that is, rectal, vaginal vault wall, bladder, uterus, urethra and maybe other walls too... i was told i need complete reconstructive surgury with a hysterectomy but i want to have more children and im afraid of the surgery. i did physical therapy for several months and it helped get my muscles a little stronger but the prolapse didnt change. i've lost a good deal of muscle on the right side especially and have nerve damage although i dont know the extent. for the last several months ive kind of given up and stopped trying. things are worse, but im obcessing over it a little less. i havent accepted it yet even though its been almost a year. some people tell me i can heal myself but it seems so severe and difficult and i dont know how or if it can be done in my case. having a hard time and alone. thanks for listening

I am so sorry to hear about your global prolapse. That is pretty severe especially after only one child, I really feel for you. I really don't know a whole lot about this type of prolapse, and I really don't know a ton about my own prolapse either....I have a uterine prolapse grade 1-2. How old is your child lil liah? My youngest is 8 weeks and I was just to the Ob/GYN on Tuesday for a re-exam for my prolapse and it has only resolved about 25%, so I know how you feel about giving up when things don't seem to be resolving-especially when you have been working so hard to help things. Hang in there though. I would definitely get a 2nd opinion on surgery-especially if you want more children. There are a lot of docs out there and they all have differing opinions, and some seem to be surgery-happy (if you kwim). You may find a doc that has a few options that have been successful vs. surgery. There is a lot of info on this thread from other mamas that I have been reading through...so far I think I have made it to pg. 16..lol. There are a lot of posts and it takes a long time to go through them but I think you will find some info you need. Unfortunately, this thread doesn't seem to be very active. I first posted on here 7-27-11 and have not yet received a response. Hopefully someone else chimes in for you that will know more about your situation. I always check in on this thread and I get updates in my email to the threads I have posted in, so anytime you need to vent or are just looking for encouragement, know I am out here and I will listen and give you as much support as I can, as will the other mamas on this thread :-) POP is a hard thing to accept, especially when we work so hard to take care of our bodies before and during pregnancy and our bodies fail us anyways-especially when our bodies are made for growing and birthing babies.

What type of pessary do you use? My OB/GYN gave me a pessary when I saw him on Tues. just to use while I am exercising to help hold my uterus up-it is calles an inflatoball. I am slightly apprehensive about using it, it is latex and I would insert it and then inflate it into a doughnut shape, then to take it out I deflate it and pull it out. Is this like what you use? How do you feel about using a pessary? Are you able to feel it inside of you while you exercise and does it move down in your vaginal canal while you work out? Sorry for all the questions :)

http://www.medicaldepartmentstore.com/pessary-p/rxxs.htm mine looks like the one that has the support in the middle. strangely enough i couldnt get pregnant with dd1 until i took it out. :shrug. i think i need to go get resized though. i wore it for 5 years without problems. i couldnt ever feel it, not even while dtd. it never moved either. it is causing me pain now. but i am sure that is bc after 2 babies i am a different shape. i have an appt to go get a new one bc i really liked it the way it fit.

When I was a couple weeks PP what made me notice something was different was I felt like something was falling out of my vagina-or that my vagina was falling out. It was a really weird feeling, so finally I got up the courage to check things down there and I could feel a bulging of soft tissue right at my vaginal opening. That freaked me out, s I took a mirror and looked down there and could also see it. I called my midwife and talked to her and she said my uterus was probably prolapsed. I looked of images of POP on the internet and found alot of similar pics of how I looked down there. I made an appt. with my Gyn and he confirmed my midwife's suspicion-a prolapsed uterus, grade 1-2. I was only 3 wks PP when I saw my gyno and he said that was really early PP and to come back in 4-6 weeks for a re-eval. I was just there this week for the recheck and have gotten about 25% better. I have read alot on this thread and have gathered some info about the PP period and when to really be concerned about this problem. Basically, alot of docs consider the PP period to be a year and that things can resolve quite a bit on their own. Also, my gyn told me if I don't have any quality of life issues with this (i.e. leaking urine, painful intercourse) then to just leave it alone. Fortunately, I do not have any quality of life issues with it, it is just annoying some days. I worry once in a while about it getting worse, and I am wanting to start exercising again and have been putting it off for fear of my prolapse becoming worse because of exercise, but my gyn says to go ahead and exercise that in the long run t will be worse for me to NOT exercise. also, I gained 80 lbs with my last pregnancy and still have about 50-60 lbs to lose and my gyn told me that losing at least 20 lbs would help my prolapse resolve some too. My last birth was also a very fast labor and very fast pushing phase as well (7 min. here too :) My suggestion to you would be to just check yourself down there and see what you feel, trust me you will be able to tell if something isn't right. I have also read that about 75% of PP women have some type of prolapse that goes unnoticed and resolves on its own. Prolapses are usually better in the morning and get more bothersome throughout the day because when you are laying down at night things fall back into place and when you go about your daily activities they kinda fall again throughout the day. Hope all turns out well for you. Wish I had more insight, but if you want go through the posts on here-there is a lot of info. Plus it is nice to know you aren't alone in this:)

hi diana,
yep that is just how i feel-on monday i had that saggy/heavy feeling so i looked w/ a mirror & it looked like the pee hole (sry to not be anatomically correct lol) was enlarged a little & like there was a tissue lump that wasnt there prior. it doesnt look like the pictures online of uterus' literally hanging out but it does feel like a hard mass sort of right before where the g spot is supposedly at. plus i can feel my cervix w/ my middle finger, its about 2 1/2in in there i'd say, which idk if thats normal or low. and then today/yesterday started having some uti symptoms and some pain in one side on my back where kidney is.plus when my dh & i had sex for the 2nd time pp, which was yesterday, it was like i was tensing up over and over when we were trying to start bc i was scared of him hurting me(first time pp was fine, wasnt scared of pain and had no pain either) plus it felt , to me, not to him, like he was kind of hitting something, and then afterwards i had some spotting which subsided last night, but once today after peeing when i wiped i had spotting also. i have been doing a lot of kegals and i TRY not to lift anything heavy but we doing some home renovations plus i have a 35lb 2y/o soo that is pretty hard to not do.i haven't seen an ob/gyn for this yet, i saw one cnm on monday, the first day i felt it, who said things looked normal, but they do NOT feel normal i can promise that. so now i am waiting for my primary care to make my appt w/ the urogyn. and let me know when that is, hopefully in next two wks. i certainly dont want to have, or have to have, some type of surgery for sure. and i am only 20, so it blows my mind that it could even happen to be, i was unaware of it at all until now. i am realllllly hoping it does revolve itself like you say :)

i haven't seen that one but the only one i have ever seen was my own. lol. i had to wear mine all the time. until this last baby was born. for some reason ecerything got better after this last birth and i have had less problems. this was also the only birth i had that was all natural and in a squatting position where i did not push. i just let my body do it all itself. all the pushing was involuntary. i am convinced that is what helped me. but everyone is different and it might not help me next time. :)
It's wonderful that you ladies are starting a thread on pelvic organ prolapse! I'd like to invite all the mom's on this thread to send questions my way relating to pelvic organ prolapse that you can't find answers to. As a women's pelvic floor health advocate, I communicate daily with women from their early 20s to their mid 80s who are navigating the POP path. I'm sorry I can't jump in and look for questions (I address them on MedHelp.org and have a nonprofit; I work on multiple aspects of global POP concern-currently heading to FDA to address the transvaginal mesh procedure controversy), but if any of you have concerns you can't find answers to, please feel free to toss them my way and you can transfer the info to the women of your community. It is vital that we establish some recognition for POP in women ahead of the curve; vaginal childbirth is the leading cause of POP followed by menopause. There are some basics available on my nonprofit site (APOPS) but often questions are more diverse than the what the basics will answer-every woman's scenario is a bit unique. 3 million women in the US alone have POP, it's truly time to take this topic out of the closet. I don't want to invade your space, just feel it is vital that we all share what we learn about this common female health concern.

hi diana,
yep that is just how i feel-on monday i had that saggy/heavy feeling so i looked w/ a mirror & it looked like the pee hole (sry to not be anatomically correct lol) was enlarged a little & like there was a tissue lump that wasnt there prior. it doesnt look like the pictures online of uterus' literally hanging out but it does feel like a hard mass sort of right before where the g spot is supposedly at. plus i can feel my cervix w/ my middle finger, its about 2 1/2in in there i'd say, which idk if thats normal or low. and then today/yesterday started having some uti symptoms and some pain in one side on my back where kidney is.plus when my dh & i had sex for the 2nd time pp, which was yesterday, it was like i was tensing up over and over when we were trying to start bc i was scared of him hurting me(first time pp was fine, wasnt scared of pain and had no pain either) plus it felt , to me, not to him, like he was kind of hitting something, and then afterwards i had some spotting which subsided last night, but once today after peeing when i wiped i had spotting also. i have been doing a lot of kegals and i TRY not to lift anything heavy but we doing some home renovations plus i have a 35lb 2y/o soo that is pretty hard to not do.i haven't seen an ob/gyn for this yet, i saw one cnm on monday, the first day i felt it, who said things looked normal, but they do NOT feel normal i can promise that. so now i am waiting for my primary care to make my appt w/ the urogyn. and let me know when that is, hopefully in next two wks. i certainly dont want to have, or have to have, some type of surgery for sure. and i am only 20, so it blows my mind that it could even happen to be, i was unaware of it at all until now. i am realllllly hoping it does revolve itself like you say :)
My sis and my best friend both say they can reach their cervix's with their middle finger and I can reach mine with my middle finger too, but I had never been able to reach my cervix before my uterus was prolapsed. My prolapse is pretty mild I believe if it is that far up and I would say if your cervix is that far up you may or may not have a prolapse. I guess the only way to judge is if you have ever been able to feel your cervix before. f you have never in the past tried to feel your cervix before, where it is could very well be normal for you. When I first noticed mine, my uterus and cervix were not outside my body, nor were they right at the vaginal opening. When the uterus falls into the vaginal canal, I believe the vaginal wall slightly sags as well, and the tissue that was bulging right at the inside was vaginal wall tissue being forced down from my uterus pushing it down, even when I first noticed the prolapse, when I would check t see where my cervical position was, I would insert my middle finger in about to the middle knuckle and that is where I would feel it, now I have to push my whole middle finger up before I reach my cervix....so it has definitley gotten better, plus I don't hardly ever feel that big bulge of tissue when I check, now it is just a very small bulge, if any. The bulge I felt when I was first self diagnosing my prolapse was soft-it almost felt like it was full of fluid. If you are feeling a hard bulge I am not sure what that would be. When I am really active during the day it seems as though my cervix feels lower, but when I check it isn't. My gyno only feels I have gotten 23% better, but I feel it is more than that-I know my body pretty well-better than he does-and I take that into consideration with what his judgment is. The first time DH and I had sex PP I was really scared it would hurt....but it didn't at all. My GYN told me to try many sex positions to see if any were painful, and so far so good (sorry...TMI) I have also read and heard that if you do too many kegels you can actually weaken your pelvic floor muscles. I read to do 4 sets of 10 kegels throughout the day. Plus I have read in this thread that the correct way to do them is to prop your bum up on a couple of pillows and then hold one kegel for 7 seconds and then release for 7, then hold for 7, release for 7; and repeat that for a set of 10. Then later in the day do another set, and so on until you've done 4 sets. At first I was crazy about this and made sure to do 4 sets of 10 EVERY day when I was really obsessing about my prolapse; but as time has gone by I kinda fell out of he routine and do them when I think of it-like right now...lol. Is the hard mass you are feeling by your urethral opening or in the vagina?
~Diana
it was right in the opening of the vagina. i havent been feeling up in there much the past few days bc im worried about causing infection bc im still spotting on and off, but i have been having a LOT of pain around the urethra and it is like the top part of the opening is normal but the bottom half of it(the bottom half of the urethral opening) is really swollen and red, so i am thinking, back to what i originally thought, that i have a urethral prolapse or urethritis(which is common for ppl w/ herpes and my dh and i both have hsv2) sooo i am not sure. i just know that it hurts really bad, that it is swollen and weird looking, to both me and my mom, though my dh says it looks like it always has but no, it doesnt, and that when i pee i have to pee and then wait and then pee a tiny more to empty all the way, and im peeing a lot but i have always done that, but no burning or pain from actually peeing.
