Birth videos on youtube

I started off watching this one that was posted on the homebirth board and that video of course linked off to lots of other homebirths and waterbirths.

And now I'm just a weepy puddle.

I am totally in that mental place where birth is pretty much all I care to think/talk about. I'm ready to DO this!

Great idea I just watched some with my little girl. I think it helped her understand a little more (20 months old) and it helped me get more prepared mentally! Thanks!

We just ordered Harry Potter book from the Amazon UK site (we love the un-Americanized versions) and I ordered a copy of the Gentle Birth DVD that came yesterday. It looks like our dvd is not working, so 2 computers later I finally got to watch some of it....

With my 3 year old son. I suggested we needed to stop at one point and he didn't want to.

I still only saw about 40 minutes before I needed to go make dinner, and I'll watch it tomorow!

I needed several kleenex... but at one point ds started talking about eating strawberries (this was when one of the doctors/experts was talking about how bad the US system is compared ot other midwife-oriented countries). Gotta love kids.

This one is my favorite...it's a slideshow...so not the same sort of intensity as a real-deal here's-the-crowning video setup...but I've found, lately, that I can get pretty anxious watching those! I don't know what that's all about. Maybe because I am not inside the birthing mama's laborland head so when I hear the vocalizations/moaning/screaming I freak in a way that I wouldn't if it were actually me birthing and doing the vocalizing? I don't know. Something to talk to the midwife about today, I guess. Anyhoo, I've been watching that one over and over. I just love it!

Yes, I think that's exactly it. I noticed the same thing - right at this particular moment, I much better like the ones where the sounds are covered up with music or the mama isn't as vocal.

I'm usually a pretty vocal laboring mama myself, but like you I find it's one thing to be doing the coping and quite another to be a helpless outsider listening to it. It made me a little anxious, too, racecar - you're not alone there!

I am going to have DH watch that one I posted though so he can be better prepared for the noises I'm going to be making and ALSO so he can hear the affirmations everyone is making.

Off to check out your link!

I get anxious every time they wisk the baby away and start suctioning and wiping.... the thing is that is almost every birth even in gentle birth choices.... and including home births.

The worst was there was one specifically on having children at the birth.... I was hoping that I could have dh watch that one, but this is one where the cord was wrapped and the baby wasn't breathign right away and was pretty unresponsive, so they needed to give oxygen and do some massage.

Baby was totally fine, and it wasn't even very scary since the midwives handled it so well... but it was NOT something that would help ease my dh's mind on this issue.

Of course, as I mentioend, my son sitting next to me was unflinching and wanted to watch the whole thing w/o any breaks.

He takes them better than me, since I get all teary eyed everytime the baby comes out and onto the mother.... and the vbac one made me bawl. I was so happy for her!
