Cause we had a stroller that came with the infant car seat, and some people might not want to spend the extra money to get an umbrella stroller when it is safe to do so, if the bigger one is around already. Also for most umbrella strollers you can't recline the seat and if the child falls asleep she looks terribly uncomfortable.
Yes, I was wondering that too? What classifies as a really big stroller.
I had a Graco that the snugride seat snapped into when ds was an infant.
After that we simply used the stroller. It had a cup holder and tray in the front, and a basket underneath. I wouldn't say it was huge, maybe medium sized? It was the only stroller I've ever owned.
It reclined back a bit so he could nap, which was nice.
He hated walking in malls and stores, and got overstimulated very quickly. My back is not great, so I could not carry him everywhere, and he hated the sling and the Bjorn that I tried.
Ds would often nap in his stroller while I shopped. I didn't have to carry bags because I could usually stuff them underneath, or hang them off the stroller handles.
He loved that thing and we used it until he was about 3.5.
I also never had to worry about him taking off or wrecking stuff on the shelves.
Not to say he never walked, he did, but he much preferred watching the world from the "safety" of his stroller. And also, if he had to walk the entire time, he would start whining and fussing immedietly and I would have lasted about 5 minutes wherever we went.
So I guess I could say it was convenient for me, comfortable for ds.
