What acitvites do your children participate in? - Page 2

Hi Ruthla's daughter!! This is the first time I've "met" you! Nice to see you. I like your list of interests, and I bet there are some easy ways you can get into those things. Choir and drama are often offered for free through churches. Maybe you should do some research! I don't know anything about tennis, but you could look up your city's "parks and recreation" department on the internet, if you are allowed, and see if they have any sports programs like soccer.

all i realy do is swim at the pool and play outside.
check and see if you guys have a community theatre near you. My DDs are about your age, and they volunteer. It is very fun for them, and they get to see all the plays for free.

ds(15): plays guitar in a band and has a lesson once a week

dd(10): gymnastics -- she trains 14.25 hours per week, and it is *way* cheaper than in the U.S. (I know because she used to do gym there)

She also goes horse riding once a week (she'd love to do more, but that's all we can afford)

Ruthla's dd! Hello! My kids do summer tennis through our town rec program. It's three hours a week-- one hour on M/W/F mornings. We have to pay a little here, but the town over from ours offers free tennis lessons in summer. They are group lessons, but my kids think that's part of the fun. Maybe you have something like that near where you live?

How about some nice horseback riding lessons? All the girls I've ever known who love riding, seem to love the horses they ride more than anything else. : A few hours a day on a horse and in the horse stalls seem to make for a child who wants to go home and go to sleep.

Couldn't hurt...

She says it's too painful to be around horses. She took lessons to the point where the only way to progress would be to buy a horse, and since now that is probably never going to happen (very sick sibling-we just lost the children's insurance this month), she says to look at a horse makes her too sad. She removed all of the horses from her room and won't let us talk about it.

Sigh. My dream plan was to get her a horse and bypass all of the teenage getting into troubleness. Wouldn't it be great, she'd fall in love with the horse, obsess with it, spend all her time with it, and not even look at a boy until her late 20's. i really need to find her a horse, even if it is a work exchange, huh? Great idea. I really need to get her a job at a stable. She's 14, and has experience with horses. Except she is now completely anti horse and wants nothing to do with them....GRRRRR!

In our cricle, some kids do own their own horse, but most of the children (even kids with money) lease horses, and some people share a leased horse. I was surprised at how not a gazillion dollars it was to share a lease. I don't know if leasing with another, or a couple of other families is an option. We were going to share a 50/50 lease, but then dd decided she wasn't wanting to ride much anymore. (Now we have our own barn, so I am kinda hoping for my own 'husband horse' someday. )

Good luck with everything.

Sharing a lease is a great idea. Really Great idea, thanks. She does have her own petsitting business (when she passes out brochures, she gets lots of clients) and she wants to get another job for when petsitting gets slow, so maybe sharing a lease is not too far out of the realm of possibility.
