Baby name help

We are really considering the name Viano is the baby is a girl. That was DH's grandmother's name and we both LOVE LOVE LOVE it. I keep trying to look it up in baby name books and baby name websites, but I can't find it anywhere. Its not important really, I'm just curious what the "meaning" of the name is, ya know? Anyone have any great baby name websites they recommend?

What was DH's grandmother's nationality/ethnic background? I have never heard of that name before and it is not coming up in any of my searches of the sites I usually use. It looks like it might be a variation of another name and if you can figure out the name it comes from, then you could come up with a meaning. I will keep looking and see what I can find.

ETA: All I could find was that it is a surname (I am assuming Italian, but that is a huge assumption on my part) and that it is a model of Mercedes.

Yea, I think it sounds like an Italian boy name. But his grandmother is Finnish. We're kind of guessing on the spelling, but we know its pronounced "Vee-AH-no". I should just call MIL and ask her how to spell it.

I just googled finnish baby names, and I found Vieno. Do you think that would be pronounced "Vee-AH-no"? Or "Vi-EH-no"? It means gentle.

I think it's pretty and if that's the meaning... what a beautiful meaning.

I just tried to call my MIL. No answer. My DH only ever knew her as "grandma Vi", so finding out her full name is kinda hard.

So I just talked to MIL, and she said its definitely Viano. I still don't know what it means, but I love it.

Hey, Starry!

This one is not quite the same, but definitely Finnish, so maybe it's related?

Oops, thought you wanted advice and opinions. Edited those out of my other post. Glad you found a name you both love!

Hi! How are you! Long time no "see"! I wonder if those names are related too! wish I knew more about Finnish names and their heritage. DH's father was adopted, so biologically, my DH isn't Finnish, so he has never taken a huge interest in it, but we do LOVE the name.

My MIL said she also thought maybe Viano was the Finnish version of Vivian. I wonder if thats possible?
