Dumpster diving is pretty much nonexistent here in Wyoming but when I was in school my favorite score was 15 unopened bars of Dove soap (outside a sorority). Not terribly pricey but in college I was broke and soap was a good thing.

We have gotten a Fuji Mountain bike, ready to go - only needed new tubes for the tires.

Last month, we got a Power Wheels 4-wheeler, fully operational with a good battery just sitting there on the curb.

DH found a brand-new pair of Rockport shoes in the box in his size on top of someone's trash can last year.

We got an entire pallet of sod for our backyard last week! A lot of work laying it but it was good memory maker too! : )

my middle son and i took near-daily walks around the neighborhood last year while we were homeschooling-it seems like every 3rd walk or so we would find stuff. the chair is the only thing we actually had a use for though.

I have a good eye when it comes to seeing "free stuff" on the street! Even if it's a block away!

The desk I just got is from right outside my apartment! Really nice and newer style with a filing cabinet drawer. It saves me from having to buy a file cabinet later!

I once found 3 old moonshine jugs outside a resto that had closed.

On the way to the dentist I found a nice healthy spider plant and it was still there on my way home so I picked it up!

One day I was walking with my friends son and I saw from the corner of my eye a dinosoaur! Well a toy box in the shape of one! He was at the end of the driveway waiting to be recycled. The owner came out and asked me if I wanted a kids tool bench with all the tools and a hat,a life jacket and a couple other things that I can't remember. I couldn't take it to the little ones house so he dropped it off for me! Very nice!!

I am always finding stuff on the street! There are way to many things to list here

i drove around for 2.5 hors last night to every business within 3 miles, and 2 apartment complexes, and 3 really wealthy neighborhoods (with NOTHING) LOL!!

but dang if the really cool stuff was at the apt complexes, nd they all has huge signs saying something like "no digging in or rummaging through the recepticle' or something like that.

i found one of those sitting hair dryers, from the ground next to the can at sallys..i havent checked it yet though LOL
thats it.

and giant, (the store) their compactor was PACKED..of not just boxes. talk about wasteful! as well as old navy. sheesh.

I'm sorry! Finding a good 'trash pick' is something that just happens. I'm not sure it works if you go out looking for stuff .

When I got my climber from someone's trash, I actually asked permission to take it just in case. I needed to take 2 trips in my van, so I told her I would take what I could and come back later for the rest. She was so happy to give the climber a new home rather than throw it out.

well, I haven't found anything spectacular in a while, but the best recently was a hose reel. We really needed one, as our house is long and the hose is in the back but everything that needs watered is in the front.

Score! The only thing it needed was the short hose that attaches the reel to the spigot. When I was at lowes to pick it up, I saw the reel was selling for like $50! And it only cost me a $5 short hose. Nice.

I think that around where I live curbside shopping is just something people do. Usually the good stuff is set out Friday for curbside pickin' as trash day is Sunday night (monday morning). Technically, the trash belongs to the trash haulers once it is set out... but who on earth is going to call the cops on you for hauling it away for free?! You can find out the trash days af the towns around you buy calling the township. My MIL's township gives out a calender every year with all the trash days of all the neighborhoods listed on it! I don't go into dumpsters unless the lid is open (unlocked) and there are no big signs saying to stay out. I have asked permission to take items if I saw someone watching or it seemed like there was someone to ask. They have never said no, and in many cases have helped load it into the trunk.

I do not go out looking for things, I just happen to see them and if I can stop and pick it up I do. Sometimes I need to put them back out because it turns out they are unuseable (for me), and sometimes after I do someone else stops and picks the item up . One time I got a toy that I thought I could clean and it turned out it was broken beyond my repair-abilities. One time I got an awesome indian style blanket that had been draped over an awful chair at the curb. I guess it was used as a dog bed... but it washed up beautifully and is now our "car blanket" It's hit or miss with some stuff.
