Getting pregnant without intercourse?

A friend of mine recently announced she was pregnant. This will be her second child. She said they weren't trying and they didn't even have intercourse. (He travels a lot and was only home to do anything once during her fertile phase and then afterwards) She says that he dtd *on* her and since she was fertile some must have made its way in and up. She says it was the day before she ovulated (she charts).

Has anyone ever heard of this happening? I don't think she's lying, she's a wonderful Christian mama but I was just wondering if stuff like this really happens as I had never heard of such.

Any thoughts?

Hey -- I actually just read a book from the 70s or early 80s called Your Fertility Signs or something. It talks about when there's CM present (which she likely had right before O), not to even get any sperm anywhere around the vagina. This book said if there were sperm on a hand that even touches a labia or vagina with CM on it, that droplet of sperm mixed with that droplet of CM coming from the cervix could cause a pregnancy.

It sounds TOTALLY crazy, and I'm sure they're totally frustrated, and he may even want a paternity test, but it actually is possible. I can't tell you how I wish it were that easy for me!!!

I've only heard stories of this happening, but I don't know anyone personally. I do know the withdrawal method of birth control as a pretty lousy track record... so if that was what they were doing, they aren't the first to get pg that way!

Now, if this was all manual or oral... then that is the sort of story our 7th grade health teacher used to tell us to get us to abstain for any sort of sexual contact! (She can also be blamed for my complete shock when we did get pg after months and months of unprotected sex!! I'm over it now, but I sometimes feel like writing her a letter. )

She could have miscalculated her date of ovulation (I did this time! It was way off from when I thought it was!).

Or if she...wiped any of his semen "down there", it could theoretically have made it's way up. But there would have had to have been some contact, whether she meant to or not as far as touching herself with his semen. Or it could be a miracle.

Actually, this is how Suzanne Somers conceived her son Bruce (I read her book Keeping Secrets). She was unmarried and going to a private boarding school that had a curfew. She missed curfew, so she and her boyfriend got a hotel and were doing some heavy petting and what not. According to her, she didn't even take off her underwear. He ejaculated on her underwear, and lo and behold, 9mo later, Bruce was born :

Yes, that is what happened, he ejaculated on the outer area...like close to the top she said. But she did note that some trickled down before she wiped it off. It was all manual, no entering. I suppose it just caught the cm and up they swam.

I don't think she miscalculated her O as her period came right when expected according to her O date. And the times they actually did have sex were closer to her period.

Wow, seriously, through the underwear??? I did that once with my bf from high school and I said I hope I don't get pregnant (of course I wasn't sure how everything worked at that time) and he said how could you get pregnant? I guess I could have!

So, wait - she got pregnant, through not having intercourse, and still got her period, but she's still pregnant?

I vote for a miscalculated O date, a little white lie, or, since you say she's a good Christian mama, I'll hedge my bets with a side wager on immaculate conception. Though if he came on her, I guess it wasn't so immaculate, eh?

Ah, if only it were that easy. I'm not getting pregnant through intercourse, but let's just say, I'm not getting pregnant nearly as quickly as I hoped.

Oh my gosh....I did not mean she started her period. : I was thinking of the bottom part I guess. I simply meant the bottom part only, that they had sex closer to when her period would have arrived, post O, and that her pregnancy test was right on schedule with when her O was.

Sorry. I've been typing out a whole huge story for something else and my mind is not right.

Some woman, myself included during O can have tons of EWCM and that stuff if very conductive to sperm. It would definatly be a longer trip for the sperm getting to the egg but those little guys have a one track mind

A question had they dtd any time before this? Specificly in the 7 days before she was due to O because sperm in some situations can live as long as 7 days.

This story reminds me of high school health ed when all of the kids in my class were trying to figure out exactly what causes pregnancy and how to avoid it. The teacher gave super vague answers and after class the students told stories about how their cousin/friend/neighbor had gotten pregnant from kissing or humping. I had never believed that pregnancy without some kind of penetration waspossible.

As long as some sperm gets to the vagina, it can theoretically swim up through the cervix and meet the waiting egg. It's a heck of a lot more likely to happen with regular intercourse, but it's certianly possible without penetration.

I think this happens to teenagers a lot more than it happens to adults. Teenagers are, in general, more likely to rely on "not going all the way" while adults are more likely to use a reliable method of BC.

Watery is very fertile as well. Without getting to graphic when a woman is "in the mood" the cm becomes very much like EW even if they normally dont see it on a regular basis when they do O.
