Digital camera recommendations?

NAK..

I'm saving up for a digi cam, and thought I'd ask you sweet ladies here if you had any rec's.

I'd love to get something with as short a delay between pushing the button and actually capturing the pic as realistically possible. Kiddos can move so fast!

Don't have a ton to spend, I'm at $100 saved now, but I want decent quality so I'd be willing to wait longer to save up...probably not in the market for a $700 camera atm though

TIA!

I have a nikon d70 which I love. It is on the pricier side, but we have a friend who went with the d50 which they also love, and it is cheaper...I don't know the figures though. I think Nikon may have a cheaper version of that as well. All of which don't have the button delay. Canon's comparable camera to the d70, (I'm spacing on the name at this moment) is actually a little cheaper and of comparable quality. I don't know what less tricked out versions of they have though. Sorry if that's not more help

We have a Nikon d50. We love it. Here is a comparison of the d50 to the d70. I think both are obcelete at this point and have been replace by the d40.

We went to our local camera shop and took home a couple of cameras for a couple of days and test drove them before buying. I found the canon harder to use even though the picture was good. The d50 had the most ease of use for what we wanted to do. This may be different for you... Must note, dh wanted an digital slr because we already had a hand held digital for snap shots.

Our little snap-shot camera is a fuji, but it is 6 years old, so only 4 mega-pixels. It has held up very well. My inlaws bought it for us in Singapore, and we have not seen any comparable versions of it here in the US. My dad bought mom a fuji based on our experience, but they were disappointed with it. Now I think they have a canon.

you can get a decent Kodak easyshare at around 300-500

the canon's and nikon's etc (dslr types) are going to be upwards of 800-1200 especially once you add on lens, memory card, case, extra battery etc.

i had an easyshare before my canon and it took great pics!!

We've got a Kodak Easyshare C300 and love it. I couldn't find it online but I went to Kodak.com and found the C310 which looks the same as ours.
http://www.kodak.com/eknec/PageQueri...q-locale=en_US The only complaint I have so far is that really close up pictures (in somebody's face close) are a bit blurry. We take a lot of those cause of new baby. There is a very tiny delay on the picture being taken, but it's not as bad as some cameras I've seen. But I'm not about to complain cause we were given the camera and the photo dock. But if you're trying to save money I suggest forgoing the photo dock and just get the pics printed at your local store cause after buying the special paper it gets expensive. But do get a large memory card if you like to go picture crazy with your family. Oh it also takes short 30 second soundless videos that are fun, but it eats up the picture amount you have left. One reason for getting a large memory card.
Hope this helps.

I'm another Nikon fan. I have the D80, which was $1300 when Dh got it for me last winter. I've heard rave reviews about the previous models, as well. I really, really love my camera. I also had a Nikon film camera years ago which I loved as well.

a DSLR will give you less shutter lag. They're also the more expensive ones. That's the Nikon D50, D70 that people here are recommending. The cannon equivalent is the cannon digital rebel. Maybe you can get one used or an older one on ebay for less. I've aslo found that the lenses (if you get extras) are as expensive as the camera body!

I am a huge fan of the Panasonic Lumix series. I have the TZ-1 and LOVE it. It is a compact point and shoot, but if you play around with the modes you can somewhat adjust shutter times. It has a Leica lens with an incredible 10x optical zoom. I do a lot of zoo photography and the pros always laugh at my little camera until I show them the pics. If you want to see examples of what it can do you can see my pics here

Scroll down to Favorite Pics. Every one was taken with this camera.

The crux of the SLR vs. point and shoot question is whether you want to play around with buttons or not. I love to be able to play around a lot with different settings, and have a lot of control when I shoot. A DSLR is perfect for me. I can get pictures the point and shoots can't. My husband hates my SLR because he just wants to set it on auto and shoot his shot. My SLR doesn't take very nice shots on auto. That's not what it's built for. My sister has a good little point and shoot and she loves it. She gets fantastic pictures from it, with minimum fuss.

So, first you have to figure out what kind of photographer you are and then choose from there.
