Food after the baby comes

Thread Starter
I have a friend who is organizing a food drop off for me :-). My mw gave me a list of foods to avoid (though LLL says you don't need to, I think I will at first- gassy foods like broccoli and onions etc.) What about foods I should eat? I remember reading somewhere that warming foods- like root veggies- are really good after the birth. Not that I really want to eat that in hot August...

I haven't found too much searching here or online.

Thanks!

My goal for eating post partum is to plow through all the foods I haven't been able to eat because of heartburn the past month or so ... pizza, tomatoes, salad with vinaigrette and raw onions, chocolate, salsa, things with ketchup, mustard and mayonnaise in them, every kind of citrus, garlicky sauces ... and I am so craving a hot dog!

I just hope my little baby girl will forgive me for any gassiness that might put her through, but there is only so much buttered pasta and toast a girl can eat!!!

I have to say I am a little sad that I am having the baby in summer as opposed to winter(like almost all my other littles). The best meal I ever had in my entire life was some amazing soup a friend brought me after my third baby was born. It was all root veggies, and ginger and stuff, it was SOOO good. I swear it was like instant energy, and warm, and she made fresh bread to go with it.

I really think that first meal after giving birth is the best though. Nothing tastes as good as food right then. LOL

You are soooooo right on with that! I remember the morning after my daughter was born, my sister made just a simple breakfast for us, and WOW, it was GOOD! I don't even remember what it was now, I just remember food being the best thing ever.

I have heard oatmeal is good for milk production. So, how about oatmeal cookies?

I've been making things like whole wheat blueberry walnut muffins and strawberry scones and freezing them. I've also frozen fresh picked strawberries in 2 cup bags for smoothies. I swear I'll probably put on weight after this baby comes but I love the idea of not having to do a damn thing except defrost.
I'm sure our families will be bringing us some food as well but we don't live really close to anyone so I'm leaving it up to dh to keep me alive and well fed. He's the cook of the family anyways.

Wow, a mason jar? That's one tiny baby and one tiny tub for a waterbirth!

Bran muffins! Get someone to make you some heavy, very branny muffins. Great for preventing constipation! Also oatmeal is good for milk production as mentioned.

Potatoes and carrots are good in the summer. I really want a steak and a baked potato loaded with sour cream, butter, and bacon. For should eat I say avacado is so good for you and packed with nutrients. Avacado and beans.

My mom said she'd cook and bring down my favorite foods after the baby comes, culuski (potato dumplings...yummy!) and prostitute pasta (pasta puttinesca), my dad said he'd make me macaroni and cheese...yummm.....

So far I've made banana bread (I think it's really flat, since my baking powder expired in may), applesauce loaf bread, frosty frozen chocolate strawberry pie, salmon cakes. I still have to make some more stuff hopefully I'll get the time to do so.
