DONA Evaluation of Labor Services and caregivers who resent doulas - Page 2

Ok, so it wasn't that she wouldn't go into labor but that labor would likely be unproductive and/or risky. That makes more sense. I'd never heard of a uterus having a condition that meant it wouldn't go into labor, especially one that could be diagnosed.

I should have been more specific with that. I did mean productive labor.

I never finished my DONA certification because I couldn't get a nurse or OB to fill out a eval for me. After having a "run in" with the same nurse three times and the last time her treating my client horrably.... I had to give her piece of my mind. Well that all blew up in my face and the Hosp basically banned me from attending births. (funny thing is I'm giving birth there in less than 3 months and bringing my Doula entorage(sp?) Anyway I "heard" that since I went off on said nurse at the nursing staion in front of the other nuses (she chose the spot, I ask if they was someplace private we could talk) for treating my client/family with such disrespect and harsh, hurtful words that she was giving a formal repremand by her boss who overheard our conversation. I wish the boss would have called me I would have loved to tell her about the two previous births. The director of Hosp called and that they no longer allowed Doulas to be present at births and were changing thier rules and only allowing 2 family members in dilevery room at a time. Which they did for about a month but it blew up in thier face when they got sued by a patient for not allowing her best friend in the room. The Hospital can not dictate who you have in the l&d, they can limit the amount of people, but they can not tell who is alowed and who is not allowed.

Jodie, WHY would you want to give birth there?

I am a long time DONA certified doula. Yes, they do take into account the mother's glowing evaluation over a medical caregivers lukewarm one. Sometimes it might take an extra birth or 2 also to get the required amount of positive paperwork too. I have also had OB's fill out evaluations with 3's & 4's, don't take it too personally. They typically don't really understand the importance of the paperwork to us. I have also had them refuse to fill it out. Remember the evals don't have to be from the same births. It doesn't have to be mom, nurse and MW all from the same birth in other words. I collected evals from 5-6 births and then threw out the lowest scores. :
Best wishes and happy doula-ing!

Well actually they can. They have the right to have anyone removed whom they consider a danger to themselves or their patients and that could include anyone they think is an interference to their medical care. I'm sure the other doulas in your area are glad you didn't get all doulas banned from the hospital permanently.

A nurse once evaluated me with 1s! I'd have to be a raging, b**ch to deserve such poor ratings. That nurse was not a nice person, she nasty to me and the student nurse that was shadowing her for the day.

The birth was an awesome 1.5 hour induction and the parents were SO pleased with me. Even the anesthesiologist complimented me (he was inserting the epidural as I was coaching mom pushing on her side ). Dad saw the evaluation when she was filling it out and gave me these surprised, sad eyes.

I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt that she thought that one was the highest score and not fives...

Anyways, I ended up attending 11 births while I was certifying and I simply did not submit that birth. I picked my best 3 complete evaluations and handed those in.

I've been working on certification and disappointed as well- But the doctors here love me and the nurses don't. I just had a birth yesterday, the nurse gave me 2 & 3s while the Dr. gave me all 5s and commented on how great I was-- the problem might have been when after 2 hours of pushing he said "Rachel, do you have any suggestions?" I was thrilled-- but I think that's when the nurse really decided she didn't like me.
I think the saddest part is that I was the only support this girl had- she had no one to be with her and the nurse wasn't happy that I was there. I just wish they would get over themselves and realize that the mother is the only important one in this equation.
