It felt like this little girl that never existed wasn't seen as equal to her male counterpart - and that just grated at me. (Still does.)
I hated this too! People would even say that in front of my poor DH, who was so crushed not to be having a little girl that he walked out of the ultrasound room in tears. He didn't know how to respond at all, and it really pissed him off. :

We don't circumsize, but I do find the need to defend my boy from retraction daunting, so I'm sure that's one of the reasons I wanted a girl. But really, it was mostly b/c my mom and I are so close and my sister and I are so close and I love having a girl, even if the boy has been easier, and I just wanted another one. I also am an avid sewer and it's just easier, and more fun, to sew for a baby girl. I had to put away the 3 or 4 frilly dress ideas I had.

All the responses have helped relieve my guilt so much and I'm beginning to realize that mourning my "lost girl" isn't the same as not wanting this baby boy. I do want him. And as my saddness lessens, I am beginning to look forward to greating this little guy.

Thanks a million times, everyone, you've all been so kind an gentle with me.

An amusing little postscript to this...I was shopping last night and found the cutest little burp rag that was embroidered with a depiction of "Little Boy Blue." I had to have it.

Aww, that's so sweet! Methinks he maybe has found a very sweet nickname?
