Another retraction nightmare...

I just read another forced retraction story, and I'm livid.

Her hubby took him to the pediatrician for a 18 month check up, and the doctor had dad hold him down for TEN MINUTES, kicking and screaming, while his foreskin was forcibly retracted.

Why? Doctor said something about a prior patient needing to have surgery.

Three months earlier the pediatrician told mom that her son's foreskin needed to be retracted so his penis could be cleaned properly or the 'wax' would cause an infection.

The parents assumed the doctor knew best.

Now, kiddo is terrified to pee, seems to be in a great deal of pain, stomps, thrashes, screams, and cries when he urinates and mom is at a loss for how to help him. They called another doctor they know and were just told that yeah, there might be some pain.

I'm just so heartbroken that this continues to happen.

That poor kid!

Is this someone you personally know? We should send out the AAP "Do Not Retract" Statement to every pediatrician in our area. There is just no excuse for their ignorance.:

That was posted on another board that I am a member of, a post that I actualy replied to the other day. I don't know if she has replied back because that board is having a lot of tech trouble this week and I can't get the page up. I told her to contact a lawyer.

Sexual assault IMO.

There are no words for the anger I feel hearing this. RAPE comes to mind. Is it me or is the medical profession here PSYCHO?! Honestly I have never experienced an MD who even hinted of retracting my DS's - my oldest is almost 16. I really can't imagine this without horror - and anger! Do I have this to worry about now for my youngest's checkups?? Maybe we'll just skip it. I shouldn't have to worry about protecting my kid from his own doctor.

if not circ then forced retraction

If they are not allowed to circumcise then forced retraction is the next best thing. Its a form of revenge against parents who buck the system (don't submit to circumcision).

Forced retraction is a another mechanism for maintaining circumcision.

Succinctly stated & absolutely true. (The subconscious human mind is fascinating, how it works in justifying these things.)

This is something I have been worrying about for a long time!!

How many boys do we save from RIC, only to have them forcibly retracted and/or cut later because of it?
