Natural Laxatives

Someone please tell me that I won't hurt the baby if I take Senokot, or drink some Senna tea. I know they're considered laxatives and not to be taken during pg, but perhaps they'd work like castor oil, only less offensively?

what about a big handful of prunes or some prune juice?

I've been doing all the usual stuff like that - tons of fresh, uncooked veggies, loads of fiber, very little dairy, etc. Prunes don't ever help me, and they're not now. My best bet is always a big plateful of carrots, and that's so far done nothing but give me an upset stomach!

Vitamin C - enough till you're saturated, throughout the day.

I know a girl who drank senna tea when she was going into labor but didn't realize it...she said it really helped things along ...I definately don't think it is as offensive as castor oil, bleh.

I've always found my most effective natural laxitive to be cherries- and luckily they are in season right now.

Eat fresh fruit all morning (i choose watermelon nectarines and blueberries, peronally), and then drink one cup of coffee.

Trust me.

Acually it's not so much the lax effect of castor oil that works, my midwife said that apparently it effects the same nervous system that the uterus uses and has a homopathic effect to stimluate contractions. They have done studies that even a warm compress of castor oil on the stomach can stimulate the bowels, so they know that it is more than just drinking a bunch of oil that gets labor going.

dont forget TONS of water, all the fiber in the world wont help if you arent hydrated enough!

Thanks for all the ideas. It's not so much for labor-inducing purposes here as actual laxative effect - I'm so constipated it's getting painful, and I don't want to aggravate the big H I've got.....

Oh jeez...I wish I was in need of laxative! I've been sprinting to the bathroom all day! I'm hoping it's a sign that I'll be laboring in earnest soon.

i'm in the same boat racecar. earlier i was afraid i might not make it. oh i hope that means my body is clearing out, for labor!

I'll trade you your bathroom runs for my apparently useless, 5 minutes apart ctx's.
