Elizabeth Lucy is here!

Elizabeth Lucy, 7 lbs, 10 oz, born 6:36 PM on 7-19-07. Her 14 mo. old sister, Anneliese isn't quite sure what to make of the new addition, but just seems curious - "Dat?" "That's your little sister, Beth."
I'm hoping we get the sleep cycles changed around soon, as Annie sleeps from 9 PM- 7 AM, & Beth's 2nd & 3rd night, she's stayed awake (wants to nurse non-stop too : ) until 5 AM, so I'm getting about 2 hours of sleep plus a couple of naps :P If daddy holds her at night, or I set her down, she just screams (which wakes Annie). This AM she didn't sleep until I finally tried putting her down on her tummy, but if she's on her back, w/in 60 seconds she waves her arms, kicks, gets scared of the open space & screams (swaddling didn't work). So, how bad is tummy sleeping? Her latch is a little iffy yet, so we only nurse sitting up.
The birth itself went great, DH brought DD & her playpen to the hospital, I had Connie, our doula, w/me, & we had a 16 hour natural birth - contrax at 2:30 AM, left house at 7 AM & checked in at 8, did a lot of walking & hot showers, CNM at birth - did tear again where I did before, but had pretty short pushing phase. Semi hourly monitoring, but they left us alone otherwise - did request them to break my water near the end.

I'll confess that my boys both tummy-slept after the first few months, they just couldn't stay asleep on their backs. But it made me horribly nervous - maybe you could let her sleep/nap in the sling until she's a bit older?

All of my babies tummy slept.. I looked at it like this:

10 minute nap on their back

2 hr nap on their tummy

So long as you check on them there is nothing wrong with them napping on their tummy. I always had mine in the same room as I was so they had constant supervision. We co-slept at night, they slept on my chest. It's all in what you feel comfortable with though.

Congratulations!! I hope you get the sleeping thing sorted out soon-- that does not sound like fun!

Mine sleeps on her side in a sleep positioner. It's snug against her, so she'lll actually sleep 1-2 hrs. without me in her cradle in it. At night, it took days for her to get the hang of side-sleeping with covers tucked around her, so i could nurse at night. it's getting better now.
