What more can you do?

What more can you do when you have shared the story of the horror that your own son has endured because of circumcision, all of your information, shown the video, everything you can think of to share and your SIL and BIL still plan to circ?

I am so heartbroken over this. My SIL says that she and my BIL will still circ even after knowing everything because it is cleaner and another reason I can't discuss here.

Ughhh it makes me so sad.

What comes to mind is not nice and defintely a UA violation. I'm sorry they are going to do it anyway.

why do ppl think circumcised penises are cleaner -wound covered in blood/feces & urine it's like after you get a epistomy after your first birth a bunch of stitches & a lack of control of bm along with bladder issues.

It is like you can never cover up those stitches with gauze like you could do when you had a hip surgery or a gallbladder surgery even my thyroid stitches were covered up for like two weeks .

When are ppl are gonna realize that it's harder to clean a circumcised boy than one who's not circumcized.

When they've realize they're all brainwashed by media. Ppl with money sell their stories. I heard this last night on NPR at 10pm. Sounded like BBC news. He had a British accent. I couldn't believe my ears. Being from London, he would be oppose to that. "Circumcised men can reduce their chances of contracting the HIV virus up to 60%" I wanted to start a thread on this news but I can't find it on npr.org .

Did anyone else hear that? npr 10pm central time July 21 Saturday. Even tho we've all heard it before there was something else I have NEVER heard, which was ppl with money (The Bill and Melinda Gates foundation) are selling this stuff, and ppl buy it.

Thats another thing, The Gates foundation was originally suppose to help American schools!!!!!! Buffet gave all his money to them so this would be accomplished. I don't see anything about them helping American's schools. Instead they went to a country where the Circumcision rate is sky high on both genders and so is the AIDS crises. This makes no sense to me at all!

What did they say about the complications your son suffered from his circ? I would've thought that that alone more than any other piece of information would've been more convincing.

Unless they’re Jewish another reason isn't valid. If their are not Jewish, tell what religion are they and ask people to pm you info (all other religion at the very least don't require that; some are against of it in their bible which is being ignored by people of these believes for convenience, I guess)
yulia.

Sometimes there's nothing you can do. All of those reasons are just covers for the deeper psychological motivations pushing them to circ. You can blow the reasons out of the water with facts, logic, and authoritative texts until you're blue in the face and it doesn't make a difference, because they've already made up their minds and the reasons are just the story they tell themselves as justification.

I mean, if they're Christian, Jesus Christ Himself could come down from heaven and tell them not to do it and they'd say "but it's cleaner."

The President of the AAP could come to their house and tell them it's not cleaner and they'd say "but he has to look like Daddy otherwise he'll be psychologically scarred for life."

Sigmund Freud could come back from the dead and tell them that their baby won't be psychologically scarred for life if he's left intact and they'd say "but it prevents HIV."

And on and on. The problem with trying to reason with people like this is that you're assuming that a) they're reasonable about circ and b) they've made their decision based on logic and reason, when nothing could be further from the truth. Under a very thin layer of modern civilization, people still have Stone Age brains and act on superstitions handed down from the tribe.

I'm sorry. Knowing that there's no rhyme or reason behind circumcision -- at bottom, it's a primitive social tradition that's hiding behind modern rationales -- doesn't necessarily make it any easier to accept that they're going to cut on their perfect little baby boy.

While not guaranteed, I can give you the gift of hope.

There's intactivists here that circ'd the first, found it to be a bad experience (to say the least!) and felt they "needed" to circ the 2nd even though they didn't want to and it was another horror story, but finally put their foot down and saved the 3rd and future.

We're all so very proud of you for trying and I think I speak for all when I tell you not to give up! Keep fighting the good fight. It's worth it!

You can educate them about "pain relief choices" and explain that one of them needs to be there to make sure anesthesia is used. Also, point out that they can still change their minds even after the baby is strapped down. Suggest they insist on a "real" Dr not a resident, and ask for a "loose circ" not a tight one.

If you can just get the Mom to be present during the procedure and to request local anesthesia, its a small victory. : : :
