Horrible Sight!

Thread Starter
My best friend had her little boy Friday morning and they circumcised him at the hospital last night. I begged her not to do it, but the father is circ'd and he really wanted the baby done.

I visited her at the hospital Friday and Saturday, when his penis was still intact. Today I saw him again at her house and wound up changing him and saw his circumcised penis. It was the most horrible sight...I'm still getting residual chills. Swollen, plum colored...and of course as soon as the air hit it he started screaming. They had JUST gotten home from the hospital and didn't have any vaseline for it...I dumped out a drawer in her bathroom and found some neosporin to use until her husband was back from the store (he was running to CVS for vaseline and gauze, since they didn't have that either).

That poor sweet little thing...I just don't understand this. I have two intact boys so I've never seen this firsthand until today. Horrors!

Think of it this way: now you can truthfully talk about the damage done, to others.

At a loss for words...

I know this is considered cold, but I would excuse myself at diaper change stating: You know I feel this is genital [yeah, connect the word genital and mutilation] mutilation and I can't stand to see a baby/child in pain. I just can not be a part of this. I'm sorry.

If you stay and help out adding in I-told-you-so (though not in those words), it will just irk her. I also feel that staying and helping do all the work ("Oh, but it's so much easier!" kind of conditions (?) her into thinking if she does this again to a future-son, even someone so passionately against MGM will be there to help her out, so it's okay. KWIM? :

I would do this too.. I could not bear to see that and hope I never will. Poor sweet baby.

And they say that circumcision is supposed to make diaper changing EASIER! No thanks, I don't want to worry about Vaseline, swelling, bleeding etc on my newborn! They are busy enough bonding with us and establishing a nursing relationship

I babysat a circumcised baby once - I honestly nearly fainted when I saw his raw penis and was so scared of hurting it further! I had never seen a circumcised baby before :

I saw a newly circ'd baby too, once, and had the same reaction. It's horrifying. :

my friend's reaction to her newly circ'd son was 'oh my god, i ruined him'. i am almost 100% sure she would do it again though, despite the adhesions and horror. that is unless i can convince her otherwise.

The worst part is that most parents who are ill informed or choose to circumcise, don't see it as this discusting gross open sore. They don't see it as more work. They just see it as one of those things you have to deal with with a newborn. Just like changing diapers 20 times a day, not getting any sleep, etc.

I know with my first son I never really thought it was bad. It was just another thing to take care of. I also never really saw him intact, he was wisked away after about an hour, then returned him mutilated three hours later.

I wouldn't refuse to help this mom, but I would refuse to change diapers and I would say why. I don't think its right to not help with chores, food, etc. to punish her for circumcising. But I wouldn't do have anything to do with diaper changes.

Three HOURS later?

Yeah. I've heard of that. My MIL said that after her DH was born they whisked him away announcing it was a boy, cleaned him, took him to get circ'd and then brought him back to nurse an hour later.

Can't have you getting attached to the WHOLE baby, can they. What if you decide you don't want to part with any of his organs?

circ perpetuated by stealth

This is one of the ways circ is perpetuated by stealth.

Parents don't see the before, only the after, so they don't know exactly what has happened.
