I need ideas! curtain hardware and accessories

I have bought lots of curtains for my new house.. now how do I get the hardware, accessories for cheap or free..

I have gone around town to hardware stores and craft stores and everything is about $30.. and I have a lot of windows! All my windows are either 4' across, 2' or 5'... I love the curtain rods with finials on the ends, and I want one of the cornice things for a window scarf I have..

I saw some tiebacks today for $50!

I sympathize, I was in the same boat and improvised with wood scraps until I cleaned out the attic and found stuff for all my windows up there! That stuff is expensive! But happy decorating, you can improvise if you have to, just not nearly as easy/nice looking/ professional.

Check out Ross, Marshalls, Tj Max or stores like that. I got some FABU drapes that just look lovely. They also carry rods but i was not able to find what i was looking for at the time so i bought my rods at Lowes. I paid more for 2 rods than i did for the 8 Drapery Panels that i bought ...

if you have time:
goodwill in our town sells those kinds of things (but obviously it's really hit or miss)

and don't forget a trip to the good old style hardware store. they might have suggestions.

kerc.. I have been looking at thrift stores, garage sales, etc. I found one cafe curtain for .50 and one cool looking curtain rod for $5 that had finials on the end.. but ultimately I think I am going to have to spend some money on some "sets" at hardware stores (where they were still pretty pricey) or something.. some of my rooms have more than one window in the room, and putting mismatched rods in there would look funny, don't you think?

Melda- there is no TJMaxx, Ross, nor Marshalls where I live..

You could try asking on Freecycle for rods. I bet someone has some sitting around their house.

My neighbor made a cornice out of particle board then stapled fabric on top of it.

how about something kind of cheap for now....like pipe? (although around here scrap metal costs have gone up so so has pipe).

My sister's old apartment came with this uber cool pot rack that was made of copper pipe.

Try freecycle too.

I know target, kmart and walmart are also pretty spendy -- having just recently bought a few curtain rods.

In a pinch you could whip up some kind of temporary fixture....staple gun? that velcro that comes with sticky stuff on the back?

I tried freecycle and got no response.. kinda irks me too, cause I offer things there all the time... a couple of times I put in a "wanted" for something and then saw it offered to someone else shortly after.. that is kinda irritating..

I once bought some cornice thingies for a window scarf for cheap at the craft store, it was a plaster thing that I had to paint myself, which could be done in any color or a faux silver or bronze or whatever, just with craft paint. Walmart, Hobby Lobby, etc might have something like that. For the curtain rods with finials, I don't know what's available, but I'm thinking I'd look for a dowel rod and dowel caps.

You can get wooden dowels/poles a like Home Depot and separate finials and paint stain.

Depending on what you need to attach your curtains to the rod you could go thrift store shopping for old silverware and bend those pieces into the hooks

My new house is a very modern looking townhouse from the outside. The inside will have a Polynesian/Asian feel..

my mom suggested bamboo but I am not sure where to get it (similar idea)

Do you have a Big Lots store? They have some nice ones that look like wrought iron that are plastic. They are inexpensive and look nice. They come with the finials and you can get matching tie backs if you want.

unfortunately, no.. and I have looked online for some deals.. the rods themselves are far less expensive online, but then when you add in shipping- well, I might as well buy them new retail here..

Have you got a garden center near you? They sell bamboo poles for using as plant stakes for cheap.
