Weekly Thread July 23 - Page 6

I cleaned the floors. Just wanted to get it done.

My father came with the juice and cucumbers and apples and pears. He also brought his BP machine. I laid down and took my BP. Then 3 minutes later it was significantly less. I think it may have to do with the pain of the sciatica stressing me when I sit down or lay down. It really hurts.

Someone in another thread told me it is normal for BP to rise a bit at the end of pregnancy. It still really seems low to me. Normal for me is 105-110 over 65-70. She got about 120 over 80 on several tries. When I used my father's machine, first I got 122 over 80, then 115 over 75 only 3 minutes later.

Well, I have no plan to do any strenuous stuff from now on. Just cooking dinner and washing dishes. I can take a bath every day. I can lounge around with my feet elevated. That will probably fix it all.

I AM a bit puzzled about how I could gain 6 lbs in one week, and 0 the previous week.

P.S. She said that if this continues until next Friday she would like to take some blood for testing, just to be sure. I told her THAT will raise my BP. It is difficult to get blood out of me. But, she did it better than anyone ever did before.

I wonder if some of it also depends on how you are carrying. I carry very high and balled up under my ribs so I have a lot of pressure on my heart and lungs. I can't lay on my back at all because I can't breathe and if I slouch too much in a chair I have a hard time breathing.

I have been having frequent BMs too. But I don't feel like I am close to giving birth.

Well, I guess I am kinda like that, but not all the way.

My swelling has gone down a huge amount just in a few hours.

I laid for a while on my side with my legs up, but it didn't seem to do anything for the swelling. It just hurt my feet to have the weight of my legs pushing down on them.

I changed to semi-reclined so I could use the laptop, and elevated my feet. But they weren't higher than my heart. I stayed like that for about an hour and a half. The swelling reduced significantly.

Leigh, I wouldn't worry about your vitals so much because they are tracking mine. My weight went up 5 pounds 1 week, half pound loss the next, up pounds the next week, and up 2 and a half pounds the following week. So non-linear. It doesn't match what the books say but I think it's okay. The fact that I could lose (when my eating habits were not in line with that) indicates to me that a lot of what we are dealing with is water retention. Similar inconsistencies with the BP. My usual bottom number is 60, so when I went to the PT and got a reading of 75, I freaked. But by a few days later it was down, albeit still more than 60. I am sure that would made it go down was reducing myself to a part-time schedule at work and NOT GETTING UP BEFORE NOON on my days off. I am sure if you could bring yourself to blow off housework and just stay prone your elevation would decrease too...

Tara, I'm so glad you got out to the pool! Thanks for the article link. I'm
going to get hubby to go soon, or a friend. Floating in water!!

GBS negative! Yay!

The only reason I got a VE was because I elected to do a culture for gon/clam
to see if eye goop will be necessary. I had declined a pap since the beginning
of the pg, but decided to be informed at this point, since it's been a lotta years
since the last one. Kind silly, but she was able to do a visual VE instead of
the finger tip and get the GBS swab at the same time. So, that's probably all
I'll do until I'd maybe get one during labor.

I've been having swelling in just my right foot! So annoying to have one very
large ankle, the other normal. No BP elevation, though, so not worrisome.

And can someone please turn down the heat?

My right foot is the one that usually swells too, the left is usually ok. LOL I thought that was weird. Glad I'm not alone though.

All of a sudden it is "necessary" to do an immediate ultrasound to make sure she isn't breech.

I consented to the darn ultrasound. It was good to confirm that she has sufficient fluid still and placenta is high. But I still walked out of the office and just cried. Why am I a "bad patient" for asking questions? Why give me so much grief for something so meaningless? :
I almost said something to one of my two Dr's about similar to what you wanted to add! haha. he was saying something about how things HAVE to be done and how my birth plan was pointless and what not and i was SO close to looking at him and saying "ok then i'll just have to stay home then."

I had a "necessary" ultrasound too, cuz said Dr couldn't get her to measure "correctly". Dr #2 who i like a little more was able to get a correct measurement after Dr #1 go two that alarmed him. At the next appointment with Dr #1 he double checked his measurements cuz it still wasn't coming up right to him. so i've just come to the conclusion that he's a.. UA violation. : )

they don't think i know anything, i've felt like crying before. i definately feel you there. i get really stressed cuz my last dr/hospital experience with my 1st was just so NOT how i wanted it to be so i want to control this one more, and they all just think i'm a dumb girl who knows nothing. UGH!

The MW seems to want to confirm that the weight is just fluid retention. That is why she wants me to lose the swelling and then weigh again.

Now that she has me on juice, I have one extra housework task, and that is cleaning the juicer after each use. I just made some and it added about 15 minutes of work. Of course that work was in the kitchen where there is no A/C and I had to scrub on the sieve part of the machine and I got sweaty. It is humid today. I stuck the juice in the fridge and came in here to lay in the A/C while it gets cold.

Really, my main tasks around here right now are cooking and dishes. I also clean the bathroom, but that isn't every day and isn't that strenuous or time consuming (the bathroom is tiny). Other than that, I plan to rest as much as possible.

so today dh and i are off to a BFing class and then an infant care class...it's going to be a long day.

i had a lot of trouble sleeping last night -- anxiety -- perhaps because we are not ready for baby?
Pie Pie: I don't think anyone is ready for their first baby - but it's so much fun to learn on the job!!!!!
What kinds of "ready" are there? How does anyone ever know when they are ready for anything?

for me, there are two kinds of "ready". there is being ready as in having the carseat installed, bag packed, everything clean and organized and having bought everything you need already. then there is ready as in mentally, emotionally and physically ready.

except for the fact i want another glider and need to pick up some nursing pads, i think im as ready as im gonna be.
I'm ready, and I thought I was ready for ds, but I still didn't know what I was in for... :
Then I'm two kinds of not ready!! This next week we finish up the "stuff" readiness, but the mentally, I don't think that'll come til I'm pushing!

PiePie, I was awake from 5:30-7am this morning, yeesh.
I'm "stuff" ready, but not necessarily emotionally ready. I've been spending a lot of time playing and hugging my ds.. As an only child I can't imagine how our family will change and hence I'm in no hurry. At the same time I love her and can't wait to see what she's like. It's two things at once.
You can be ready but there is still stuff that is going to happen.

Yesterday we woke up to a flood in front of our house. Our well broke so we have no water for anything. Thank goodness I had stockpiled a bunch of bottled water for drinking earlier this week and have some from a few months ago too. My husband thinks he can get it fixed today, he dug down and found the problem and bought the parts he needs. So maybe water by tonight. We are going to the pool soon so everyone can swim and shower.

I am just so tired I'm not sure I can get off the chair to get to the pool. I am hot and sweaty though so the promise of a shower is a good motivator.
