Disgusting, repulsive basement

Thread Starter
We've been living in our fixer-upper for almost three years now, and the upstairs is almost completely livable (still need to RE-do the bathroom and some upgrades in the kitchen), so I've turned my attention to the basement. It's got a drop ceiling, mostly broken and the fluorescent lights a mess, powder-blue and white faux paneling walls, and an unfinished concrete floor.

So the cats have been using it as their vomitorium for the past three years (we have a long-hair who gets hairballs, whole 'nother story there). Any suggestions on getting the floor clean before we finish it with tile? It's really gross!

stiff broom (like you'd use to sweep outside), hot water, vinegar and elbow grease would be my first choice.

a mask, a pressure washer, and a squeegee.

oh, our basement is a mess also. there isn't any animal vomit, but it is in despirate need of a very good cleaning. Beware of lead paint when u are cleaning if it is an older home. when u scrape up the vomit, you don't want to scrape up lead dust.

I'd hire somebody to clean up that sort of mess. Gross.

Otherwise, I second the pressure washer.

You really might want to consider having this professionally done. Not only will they have the right gear to protect themselves, they'll know how to really make sure it's all GONE.
