Prenatal Vitamins--Whatcha Takin'?

I'd love some recommendations!

In the past, I have used Prenatal Forte, which my MW likes and recommends, but it's 5-6 per day, and they are big and smelly. Very hard to choke down, and even harder when you realize you gotta do it again in a few hours!

This time, I was taking the liquid one by Source of Life, which tastes good but I can't find it locally, so I stopped taking anything when I ran out. I don't think it is as complete and well-rounded as the Forte, but at least i could get it down.

Now I'm thinking about what to get when I go for my MW appt on Thursday.....either more of the Source of Life (I can find it in the town where my MW lives) or something else. It would kind of be nice to have something that didn't need refrigerated, but really that's not a huge deal. The main thing is getting something that I can stand to take, and something I can remember to take, LOL!

I have trouble believing that a one-a-day could be worthwhile, but I suppose that it would be better than the *nothing* I have been taking, hmm? :

I'm eating well, and I'm not really worried about the baby, but I am so exhausted all the time (and my iron levels are good), so I could really use a boost of some sort, since more sleep is out of the question!

I've heard good things (here on MDC) about Rainbow Light (looks like they have a one-a-day or a six/day variety) and New Chapter. Anyone have experience with those or others?

TIA!

I've been taking Citracal with DHA. It's 2 pills. I like it. I haven't tried anything else.

I'm taking 2 Flintstones. Pass that bag on over for my head.

Hey - I like Flinstones!

I'm taking Floradix, flax seed oil, fish oil, sodium ascorbate (vit. c), cal/mag supplement, and a prenatal multi when I think I can stomach it.

I'm taking Longs Brand prenatals. All the expensive brands seem to have herbs and botanicals in them and I'm not comfortable with that.

I'm taking the Target brand prenatals and Nature's Bounty brand calcium supplements. I always took calcium before getting pregnant - a few of my aunts have osteoporosis so my dad has always been obsessed with me getting enough calcium. My MW said that this vite combo was cool. I eat Smart Balance on waffles for omega-3's because I don't eat fish and my MW advises against eating flax. Which is too bad! I loved getting my omega-3's from flax!

I'm just on a lonely target brand prenatal multi.

I'm not taking anything right now b/c I can't get it in Nigeria, so I'm trying to eat as many nutritionally-dense foods as possible. But I will be going home in a month, and I will look for a whole-foods supplement. I think they're much better than synthetic vitamins, because they are not just isolated vitamins, but contain all of the antioxidents and other co-factors.

I was taking generic rite aid vitamins but switched to primacare one since our insurance covers it

SheBear, I have an extra bottle of the old formula of New Chapter's Perfect Prenatal (it's 4x/day, 60 day supply) that I will send to you for cost of shipping if you want them. I didn't notice they sent me one of the wrong bottles when I ordered them 6 months ago and it's WAY too late to get a refund/exchange. Just PM me and let me know.

To answer your question, I am taking New Chapter Perfect Prenatal. The formula I have is 3x/day. They are not very smelly or too large and I only had issues taking them alone when I had really bad m/s and food aversions. Then I had to eat them with ice cream, yogurt, or cottage cheese. I am now back to the place where I can take them alone, without even water or anything. I have heard others say that this is the only prenatal that doesn't upset their stomach if they take it without food.

Sihaya, do you happen to have a link where I can look at the ingredients? I've heard they are really good, but don't know anything about them. But I'm definitely interested if they aren't too big or too smelly, LOL! And for cost of shipping--can't beat that sort of generosity!

I'll pm you with my address so you can figure out what shipping would cost, or if you just want to guess at it, no big deal to me. I can prolly send you paypal to cover it, if that's easiest for you.

Thanks, mama!

Here's the info from the New Chapter website: http://newchapter.com/product/produc...&-KeyValue=127. Not sure if that's what you were looking for as far as ingredients, but it gives a good idea. I do know that the only soy in them is cultured (I can't tolerate non-cultured soy products). If you give me your zip, I should be able to figure out shipping. Paypal would work great as long as it's funded (not a credit card). Just PM me your address and I'll PM you my paypal info.

I PM'd you, but forgot to mention my paypal is funded. Don't have much in it right now though (We just bought homeschool curriculum, LOL!) but should be enough for shipping. Just let me know!

I've been taking the generic Whole Foods one a day. Unfortunately they smell like "an old spitoon" according to DH and they make me gag but it's a huge bottle and I feel like I need to finish it before switching to something else.

I'm taking Rainbow Light. They're really big and they taste exactly like pond scum, but they were recommended to me by a few people. I'm also taking those chocolate calcium chews.

I'm taking Rainbow Light...the 6 a day kind, but I only take one and I take it with a stool softener .

I had a prof in college who firmly stated that vitamin supplements were a waste of money and that all they really did was give you "pretty colored pee" I don't completely buy into that, but I think it has tainted my views on them. I feel like one of those pills is enough "insurance" for a fairly well balanced diet...I may be totally wrong, but it makes me feel better since I pretty much completely ditched the prenatals with my previous pgs (mostly b/c of constipation).

I'm not taking prenatals. Not on a regular basis. I take evening primrose oil and vitamin C every day, and once in awhile I remember to take a multivitamin.

The only ones that don't make me ill are the Trader Joe's brand. But they still have a horrible taste when you first put in mouth, yuck!!

I don't remember to take em' often but I eat really well!
