Circumcision mentioned on House M.D. (the tv show)

I was watching an episode from the second season of House the other day and this one patient came in with blood in his pants. He said his girlfriend freaked out when she saw he wasn't circumcized, he felt so embarrased that he used shears to try to cut off the foreskin. Dr.House told him not to be ashamed and recommended a plastic surgeon for him. (so unlike his usual horrible bedside manner..)

That was so disheartening to me, that someone would feel that ashamed for being natural. I just had to share that.

Yes there was a similar episode of nip/tuck. I really hate when the idea that foreskin is something to be ashamed of is shown on TV. Parents who circ or want to circ. will see and say 'see that's why it should be done.'

Funny, when I saw that episode of house it seemed that Dr. House was pretty sarcastic about the guy cutting himself because of his girlfriend.

Well he was sarcastic but not in his usual mean way.

Hmm. In real life, if you self-mutilate, you get thrown in the psych. ward for a week or more....

Isn't there a website somewhere that has all the shows that mention circ. on it? I wonder if this is on there. I can't remember the particular episode.

There was a similar episode of ER. This boy decided to self circumsize because his girlfriend told him she didn't want to date him anymore because of his foreskin. It turns out she was just using it as an excuse. She just didn't want to date him anymore and didn't know how to tell him. She never expected him to do it to himself to keep her.

But the part that really irritated me about the whole idea was the way they portray it. Honestly, if someone really tried to circumsise himself with the sewing scissors, they wouldn't be walking into the ER and they would be writhing in pain. The guy sitting there going "yeah, I just started cutting"
gives the impression that it really is just a painless snip. so irritating.
