So I know it's a girl... but can you help me figure out the pic??

For those of you on LJ I did post this over there too.

Anyway I finally got a copy of the "girl" pic from our ultrasound 3 weeks back. But I don't quite get it. When I looked at her on the machine it was clear - I saw 3 white lines between the legs. And the tech from my other u/s yesterday looked at the pic I'm about to link below and said it was clearly a girl - and also checked again and said it was a girl.

But I don't see 3 white lines between legs. I don't see legs at all. I actually don't understand the angle of this pic at all. I see 3 random white lines on a lump on the right. And on the left something looks like a leg. But the angles are weird so it seems like if that WAS her crotch it'd be sideways!

Interpretation is much appreciated!

Sorry can't help you. I can't tell anything on U/S photos. I just wanted to say that I think most of us untrained folks probably can't tell.

I know. The tech points it all out when I'm there and I'm like "oh ok." Then I come home and I'm like "wait... what?!?!"

I can usually tell... but I can't make heads or tails (no pun intended... ) of that ultrasound pic.

It's not a good angle....there is no context or reference. Is that the only pic they gave you?? with our first 2, we were given strips of pics, plus the video, and it was much easier to figure out where things were by using the other pics to provide context. To me, it looks like the just zoned in on the labial folds to the eclusion of any other part of her. It does look female (our U/s tech with dd described it as a shape like half a pecan!), but I'd be seriously annoyed if that was the only picture I had! :

I can usually tell almost immediately with my u/s experience. But I can't figure that pic out!

Someone in another online ddc I'm part of said that the thing on the left is her leg... and then you can see 2 white lines and a faint 3rd where her crotch would be. I can kind of see that. That's the only thing that's made any sense so far - everything else I just can't see.

The techs kept complaining for each u/s (I had 3 different techs) about how uncooperative my baby was. The whole time. "If this fricking kid would COOPERATE." "Your baby isn't COOPERATING!!!" They were clearly so frustrated and saying all this crap about how my baby wasn't "listening" to them. My bad - I haven't been training my fetus to cooperate with ultrasound techs. Bad mommy.

Anyway I could see a bunch of things during the u/s - and they did point out the 3 lines at my 17w and 20w ones. But they said that they couldn't get any good pictures of her. My u/s pics all look HORRIBLE compared to the quality of a lot of other people's u/s that I've seen. Frustration!

The three random white lines on the right side...I don't know what they are, maybe part of the umbilical cord?? But I can DEFINITELY tell the left side and see where it IS a girl. Her knees are facing to the right, tucked under...so you're seeing her as if she were sitting on her knees on a glass table, and you're looking up at her bare bottom. If it were a boy, you'd see a penis above the bottom leg (in the triangular gap on the right). You're only seeing her left leg to the knee since her shin and foot are tucked under. The right leg is up at the top of the pic, kinda blended in with your uterus (or placenta).
Let me know if this doesn't make sense. I think this is a great picture...MUCH better than ours. I'm still questioning if what I saw was a penis or the umbilical cord. Yours, however, is very clear and very obviously missing a penis. Look for the "two hamburger buns" to the left center of the picture). It really looks like hamburger buns...the classic three lines aren't there, although the one in the center is pretty distinct.

WOW julichris. You sure know your stuff. I can see the hamburger buns and the left leg - though I'm not sure where her knee is. But this perspective makes WAY more sense. I can totally see what you're talking about for the most part and I understand this picture so much better now! Thank you!!! Thanks to ghuaghua as well - I can definitely see the leg. I'm glad that 2 people are agreeing on this because it makes it so much clearer for me. Thanks!!

Yeah, that's what I'm seeing too...you're looking at her bottom from underneath, and her legs are spread fairly far apart.

*disclaimer: I am not an u/s tech or in any way trained at reading these things, I've just seen a lot of them because I have "high risk" pregnancies.*

Even if you aren't a u/s tech this was way better explained than my u/s tech. And during the u/s itself they did point it all out and explain it to me - but I have a hard time reinterpreting it again at home. It's nice to hear from those with more experience!

Awesome. You had described it so well that I knew what you were saying - but seeing it drawn out is REALLY very helpful.

My poor little girl. Her bum's spread all over the web and people have been drawing on it to point it all out. Hee hee. But what can you do - it really helped me out and I really appreciate it!
